Arakhamia: Detention of Saakashvili in Georgia could lead to serious diplomatic scandal

Head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction David Arakhamia believes that the detention of former president of Georgia, a citizen of Ukraine Mykhailo Saakashvili may entail a serious diplomatic scandal.

“I believe that there will be a serious diplomatic scandal on this topic, because he is a citizen of Ukraine and they have no right to detain him just like that, unreasonably. It seems to me that the weekend will pass and there will definitely be an analysis of this situation at the international level. We have a group friendship with Georgia, and I believe that it is necessary to resolve this issue at the inter-parliamentary level as well, “Arakhamia said in a comment to journalists.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday that former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was detained and taken to prison.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleh Nikolenko said that the head of the Georgian embassy had been invited to the ministry to receive official information on the grounds and circumstances of the detention of former President Mikheil Saakashvili.
