WAPA EMPOWERS SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, INDIGENT IN SURULERE, APAPA COMMUNITIES
As part of efforts to reduce poverty in Lagos State, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has empowered survivors of domestic violence and the indigent in Apapa, Surulere and Igamu Communities with functional trade tools to boost their financial status eroded by abusive matrimony.
 
Speaking during the event held at the Sea School, Creek Road, Apapa recently, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) stated that the survivors of Domestic Violence were part of the focused recipients to enable them overcome the gruesome experiences of domestic violence attack from abusive spouses while also enhancing their financial capabilities as contributors to the economic growth of the State.
 
Dada said: “The Ministry, in line with its vision to sustainably reduce poverty in Lagos State, has taken the Mega Empowerment Initiative to another dimension of visiting our various communities on an assessment strategy to identify the particular intervention support the citizenry demands from Government. This is not a jamboree affair, rather, it is focused on impacting lives towards financial independence”.
 
“Today’s programme will take care of the needs of domestic violence survivors, as well as indigent residents from different communities in Sari-Igamu, Ijora-Badia, Ijora-Oloye, Nanti Village, Surulere and Shitta Communities”, Dada added.
 
While explaining the dimensions the initiative was being implemented, the Commissioner stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has fulfilled its promise to increase the number of the Mega Empowerment programmes from once a year to four times in a year, as such, this is the third edition for the year 2021.
 
She, therefore, implored the beneficiaries to take advantage of the empowerment tools to improve their livelihoods and those of their families while effectively contributing to the economic growth of the State.
 
Mr. Fowowe Ebenezer, the APC Legislative leader, Apapa Golden Council, expressed his satisfaction with the Mega Empowerment programme in Apapa, Iganmu and Surulere Communities, applauding Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his passion towards uplifting the Lagos citizenry from all shackles of poverty through the numerous empowerment programmes.
 
The event, which was marked with presentations of trade equipment, had in attendance His Royal Majesty Alayeluwa, Oba Abdul Fatai Aromire, Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, who was represented by the Bashorun of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Chief Hakeem Ojora; Paramount Chiefs and other Community leaders in the Apapa Local Government Area as well as top government officials and stakeholders.
