90 Day Fiance: Why The New The Other Way Couples Are A Flop
Fans of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way because there would be two new couples among the cast, but as the season progresses, it’s clear those new couples are a bust. In fact, many fans have a bad feeling about The Other Way couples that is impacting their overall enjoyment of the show. Viewers haven’t taken a shine to the new couples the way they hoped they would, and the excitement they had for the spin-off’s new season is quickly evaporating.
For months and months, fans have been watching the same recycled couples on the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, and they’re starting to get sick of the repetition. The last season to feature new cast members was 90 Day Fiancé season 8, and even then three of the seven couples had been seen before in the franchise. Viewers have been clamoring for new cast members and were elated to find out The Other Way season 3 had cast two new couples. However, now that the season is partway through, fans think these 90 Day Fiancé franchise couples are doomed from the start, and whatever hope they had for their storylines is turning sour.
Ellie Rose and Victor McLean are one of the new couples, and fans have already spotted issues with them that make them hard to watch. So far this season, Ellie has uprooted her entire life in Seattle and moved to Providencia to be with Victor. However, the couple is problematic because he was in another relationship while they were together. Fans feel stuck in a weird limbo with Ellie and Victor—they can’t hate-watch them because of their sympathy for Ellie’s tragic past, but at the same time it’s hard to want their relationship to work. Fans want to root for Ellie and Victor but can’t due to their circumstances, and it just leaves viewers feeling bad.
Many fans think the other new couple, Steven Johnston and Alina, are even harder to watch. Viewers have become disgusted seeing Steven manipulate his Russian girlfriend, and it’s not entertaining because there’s a young girl being taken advantage of. For most couples in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, both partners have their faults that contribute to an often-dysfunctional relationship. However, in the case of Steven and Alina, Steven is clearly in the wrong and it just makes viewers feel bad for Alina and pray for their breakup. Steven has pulled ahead as a villain this season and it’s created a very unbalanced and uninteresting storyline.
The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has gotten increasingly stale, and fans who hoped the new blood in The Other Way cast would revive the series are disappointed in the result. What The Other Way, and franchise as a whole, needed were new cast members that fans could identify with and root for, and the show failed on both counts.
