I Know What You Did Last Summer Clip Teases Show's Opening Car Accident
Amazon Prime has released the first official clip for the upcoming series reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The show is an update of the 1997 film of the same name. It was the next film penned by Kevin Williamson following the success of his meta-slasher Scream, even though he wrote the script before writing Scream. Based on the Lois Duncan young adult novel, the original film follows four teens (originally played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillipe, who is open to doing a cameo in the new series) in Southport, North Carolina. After accidentally running over a man with their car one Fourth of July, they are stalked by a slicker-clad killer with a hook the following year.
Amazon's upcoming series is set to begin streaming on October 15. The show, which is being produced by James Wan and Shay Hatten, was initially announced in 2019. The pilot was penned by Sara Goodman and directed by Craig William Macneill, who has a wide horror series background that includes Channel Zero, Castle Rock, and Them. Further episodes will be directed by Logan Kibens (Snowfall) and Benjamin Semanoff (Ozark).
On their YouTube channel, Amazon Prime shared the first official clip from I Know What You Did Last Summer. This clip is a scene from the pilot showing exactly what these particular teens got up to last summer. Just like their original counterparts, they are driving down a rocky oceanside road and accidentally hit something with their car. This clip doesn't show exactly what they hit, but if they find a body lying by the side of the road, it wouldn't be a huge surprise. Check out the video below:

Season 1 of I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck, Brooke Bloom, and Bill Heck. Although most of the stars of the series are up-and-coming, quite a few have a horror background in one way or another. Iseman starred in Annabelle Comes Home, Tju had roles in Scream: The Series and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, and Heck appeared in the historical serial killer drama The Alienist.
This particular I Know What You Did Last Summer clip maps pretty closely to the plot of the original. However, it would be surprising if the show didn't begin carving its own path pretty quickly. It is highly unlikely that the series is interested in recycling the eventual killer reveal (much like the Scream reboot series, which involved a completely different whodunit), so the body they hit is likely to be a new character that fans will have to learn about over the course of the series.
