The Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces intercepted eight out of 12 missile launched by Israeli fighter jets during the recent attack on T-4 air base in central Syria, Vadim Kulit, deputy chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria, told reporters on October 9, according to the TASS news agency.

“On October 8 at 21.33, trespassing into airspace of the Syrian Arab Republic near Al-Tanf, six F-16 tactical fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force fired 12 guided missiles at T-4 [Tifor] air base in Homs province,” Kulit said. “The Syrian air defense forces on duty … destroyed eight missiles from the Russian-made Pantsir surface-to-air missile system.”

Kulit confirmed that six Syrian service members were wounded in the attack. The Russian officer also revealed that the air base sustained “minor damage”.

Satellite images revealed that the missiles that managed to reach T-4 air base hit an apron located at the end of the main runway, as well as what appears to be an air-defense site located to the south of the base.

The target of the Israeli attack may have been Iranian weapons or military equipment which were recently deployed in T-4 air base. The base is known to be hosting the main weapons supply center of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria.

Israel continues to launch attacks on Syria on the hope of pushing Iran out from the war-torn country. This, however, will not likely happen anytime soon.
