Kate Garraway fans in tears as her ‘proud’ children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, pay moving tribute to incredible mum

KATE Garraway fans were left in tears after her proud children Darcey and Billy paid a moving tribute to their incredible mum on Piers Morgan Life Stories tonight.

During her appearance on the ITV show, the Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, opened up about her husband Derek Draper’s ongoing health battle.

Derek contracted coronavirus in March 2020, which left him critically ill.

He spent over a year in hospital, before finally returning home to be cared for by his wife and their children.

Piers and Kate touched upon their struggles during the show and the journalist also got to talk to their two kids, who were in the audience.

Piers asked: “Let me start with you Billy, how proud are you of your mum?”

The 12-year-old replied: “Very proud. I’m really proud of her.”

Kate added: “Those two are incredible. And they are incredible with their dad.”

Piers then asked 15-year-old Darcey: “How have you found the last 20 months and in particular your amazing mum through this period, keeping everything going?”

The teen said: “She’s amazing obviously. She looks after us, she always encourages us, it’s really good. We’re really proud of her.”

“And so you should be,” Piers added.

Viewers fought back the tears at home and flocked to Twitter to share how touched they were.

One wrote: “Wow. I absolutely take my hat off to @kategarraway What an amazing lady. So strong, incredible, and amazingly empathetic considering all she’s going through! Her kids are also just beautiful in their input tonight.”

A second said: “Emotional wreck lately. Definately not crying watching Kate Garraway on #LifeStories A heartbreaking, courageous, uplifting story.”

A third added: “@kategarraway Just watched your interview with piers Morgan. What an inspiration. And what amazing children. Wishing you well x.”

A fourth chimed in: “@kategarraway have just watched Piers Morgan and was in tears. Just wanted to say what an amazing woman you are. You are a wonderful couple and your children are a credit to you both x.”

Kate also revealed the dire state her husband is in after his almost two-year battle with Covid.

The GMB star said Derek was in a “terrible state” during the final episode of Life Stories episode hosted by Piers.

Even though Kate was finally able to bring him home this year, it does not mean things have gotten easier for the family as he’s thought to be one of the worst affected living Covid patients in the United Kingdom.

Derek requires round-the-clock care after Covid “devastated him” all the way “from the top of his head to the tip of his toe.”

Piers probed his good friend Kate who is set to replace him on the ITV interview series about what “has Covid done to your husband?”

A stoic Kate replied: “It’s devastated him. From the top of his head to the tip of his toe.

“His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.

“He still can’t communicate, he still has issues with mobility. Fundamentally, he’s in a terrible state. Look, he’s alive, Piers.”

Derek was rushed to hospital in March 2020, and just weeks later he was put in intensive care. He entered a coma as his condition deteriorated.

In May Kate said that Derek was still in a coma, but two months they shared the happy news he was awake.

Then in September it was revealed how Derek’s six-month Covid battle is now longest in the UK.

In April this year he returned home.

Kate was left in tears this September after she accepted an NTA gong for her documentary about Derek.
