Of all the beverages to order at Animal Crossing: New Horizons' café the Roost, the one villagers should avoid at all costs is pigeon milk. The name of the drink may seem innocuous if not a little strange, but once one realizes birds are not mammals and thus do not produce regular milk, it puts the mysterious liquid into question. So what is pigeon milk, why does Brewster offer it, and what ultimately makes the drink so disgusting for those unfamiliar with it?

Pigeon milk and the Roost came into New Horizons with the version 2.0 update. Ran by the coffee aficionado Brewster, the Roost has been a staple in the Animal Crossing series as it makes for a perfect location for players, villagers, and special characters to spend time together. Pigeon milk on the other hand has only just joined the series with New Horizons, and the drink has tickled the curiosity of those who have noticed it.

However, players should stay away from the drink, as pigeon milk is not the same as mammalian milk. The process of making the substance is not one of milking utters but rather a gut-churning one that consists of regurgitating digested materials. And all of this only becomes worse when considering that Brewster may be producing this milk himself.

Reddit user Sultry_Penguin, who wanted to know more about pigeon milk, was horrified to find out that the substance is actually a secretion from a bird's crop that is regurgitated to feed its babies. The crop is part of a bird's digestive system where food is stored before being further broken down. Pigeon milk, then, is a vomited secretion that comes from an organ where wastes are stored. Making this worse is that its texture is not that of milk but more of a runny cottage cheese, meaning that New Horizons players visiting the Roost who made the mistake of using pigeon milk in their coffee will have to enjoy their morning beverage with chunks in it.

Perhaps even more disturbing is that the pigeon milk is probably coming from the only pigeon in New Horizons: Brewster himself. While the barista has been known to be aloof, offering something equivalent to liquid leftovers to customers may be his lowest moment. However, pigeons only offer their version of milk to their young, so this may be Brewster's way of saying that he views his patrons as family, which is rather sweet. And besides, there are still other ways for New Horizons players to enjoy the Roost.
