The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy is an internationally renowned sailing events venue which was host to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Competitions.
We regularly host major events such as World and European Championships as well as providing opportunities for recreational sailors to get on the water. The driving force and focus of the Academy are the sailing events and the provision of access to watersports for all but to sustain the facilities and business we have several other income streams such as a boat yard and a strong catering operation including conference and function facilities.
We are looking for a new Management Accountant to join our small team. This is a part time position in the region of 20-24 hours per week but there is a degree of flexibility around the hours/days. It is a complex business which makes it a varied and interesting role. This is a hands on role and whilst the key elements of the role are financial there may be potential to expand the role into other areas of administration for the right candidate. Our priority is finding the right person to fit in with our existing team and so we are keeping an open mind on how the role is filled.

Duties
Processing of invoices, from receipt through the approval process to payment.Reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.Prepare and post month end journals for accruals, prepayments, accrued income, deferred income, payroll costs and depreciation.Liaise with external accountants to prepare and pay salaries.Preparation of monthly management accounts with variance analysis.Liaise with auditors in the provision of information for the annual audit.Various ad-hoc projects required by the Chief Executive
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Several years of experience in a finance role from day-to-day booking keeping, through to management accounts preparation.
- Strong attention to detail with a high concern of accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong organisational, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- An appreciation of the demands of working in a busy environment
- Ability to work as part of a team and to “pitch in “when needed
Desirable
- Knowledge of XERO
- Experience of budget preparation
- Ability to prepare and present financial reports to senior staff.
- An interest in sailing/watersports
