Spider-Man Producer Teases Miles Morales' MCU Future

0

Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal hints at Miles Morales' potential MCU future. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles first appeared in Marvel Comics in 2011 after the death of Peter Parker. As a biracial teenager, Miles was a major step forward for representation in the comics, and ever since his arrival, fans have wanted to see him get the same big screen glory as Peter has. Miles' onscreen debut came in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a 2018 effort that received near-universal praise from fans and critics. The sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)will arrive in theaters next year.

Though the animated movies remain an excellent showcase for Miles, there's still plenty of interest in seeing him get adapted into live-action form. Right now, Peter remains the MCU's Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. However, with next week's Spider-Man: No Way Home functioning as a turning point for Peter, many have wondered if Miles will soon make his MCU debut. He definitely exists within the universe, as 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming alluded to him through the presence of his uncle Aaron Davis (Donald Glover).

It might not be official just yet, but there certainly could be a future for Miles in the MCU. Screen Rant got the chance to sit down with longtime Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal ahead of No Way Home's release and discuss all kinds of Spider-Verse matters. When asked if Homecoming's Miles Easter egg will ever return, Pascal had this to say:

You never know. Someday maybe. We can do anything we want now with the multiverse and everything else.

Pascal's answer calls to mind recent comments made by Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who were responding to the idea of Miles turning up in No Way Home. The MCU movie is being presented as the ultimate Spider-Man movie, featuring villains from past films and potentially even Holland's predecessors in the Peter Parker role, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Spider-Man: No Way Home might feel like a natural place to introduce the MCU's version of Miles, though Lord and Miller indicated that isn't to be the case.

Still, Miles' odds of joining the MCU are good. As the franchise moves into its first post-Avengers: Endgame phase, there's been a pattern of new heroes coming in to take over from those who came before. Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is pretty much the new Black Widow, while Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) officially took on the mantle of Captain America earlier this year. When it comes to Spider-Man, Miles could easily step up in Peter's place, and Holland himself even supports the idea. However, there are reports of more Spider-Man movies on the horizon with Holland, so perhaps Miles' entrance won't happen quite so soon. As Pascal told us, you just never know.
