Die Welt readers on NSP2 shutdown: Germany could be the first to suffer
Germans are against the closure of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. They criticized the call made by Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party faction in the European Parliament
Die Welt wrote an article on the politician’s opposition to the project. However, the paper’s readers did not appreciate it and reacted sharply to Weber’s idea, the PolitEkspert portal reported.
The MEP decided to support the hysteria launched by Washington and Kiev about an imaginary Russian attack on Ukraine. They say if that happens, that NSP2 needs to be shut down.
Readers of Die Welt immediately pointed out the flaw in Weber’s plan: it would not be Russia’s side that would suffer, but Europe’s. The first to suffer will be Germany, which depends on the launch of the pipeline.
Some have pointed out that the very obsession with Russia attacking Ukraine is quite absurd. It is not at all beneficial for Moscow. Moreover, it perceives the neighbouring country as a brother country, despite the fact that the state authorities now deny these ties.
Commentators eventually came to the conclusion: Weber can say whatever he wants. He remains in any case a politician whose words are not taken seriously.
