Apple TV+'s Mr. Corman: Which Character Are You, Based On Your Zodiac Sign?
There are few shows out there like Mr. Corman, the Apple TV+ series that focuses on the title character--played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in one of his best roles--as he struggles to make sense of his life and encroaching middle-age. While Josh is the center of the series, there are a number of other fascinating characters, some of whom only appear for a brief time, but who nevertheless manage to make an impression.
Thinking about them through the lens of the zodiac allows for a more nuanced appreciation of just how compelling and relatable they are.
There are few people in Josh’s life as important as Victor, his roommate and the closest thing that he has to an actual best friend.
Victor has all of the traits commonly associated with Aries, for while he is very fun to be with and has a powerful vivacity that makes him very charismatic. He’s also not afraid to stick up for himself. In fact, he can sometimes leap into a confrontation before he quite knows what it is that he’s fighting about.
Josh has a very conflicted relationship with most members of his family, and that includes his sister, Elizabeth. While Josh looks down on her suburban life and its values, she makes it clear that she is very happy with the choices that she’s made.
Like a Taurus, she isn’t going to let unrealistic dreams and expectations get in the way of the practical choices that need to be made every day, which helps to explain why she is content in her life and Josh is not in his.
The instability that is a key aspect of the Gemini is very much in evidence in the character Dax, the influencer that Josh and Victor talk to at a party.
Even though he clearly thinks that he’s an important person, Dax has struggled to gain the type of attention and fame that he thinks that he deserves. But, like most Geminis, he seems either unable or unwilling to simply settle down and do the hard work required to accomplish his goals.
Even though Cheryl only appears in one episode, she's memorable. She is the mother of Josh’s ex-girlfriend, but that hasn’t changed how close she is to Josh. In fact, she exhibits all of the typical traits of a Cancer when she runs into him, including offering him unequivocal love and compassion (something that she also offers to her daughter).
However, she also exhibits some of the less pleasant qualities of the Cancer, including a tendency to be self-indulgent. She should definitely be considered one of TV's best moms.
Gabby is another character that, despite only appearing on one episode, nevertheless manages to make quite an impression. She has all of the traditional traits of a Leo, including a powerful sense of her own importance and her own willpower.
This leads her to get into some rather ugly confrontations with her father, Victor, who doesn’t quite seem to know what to do with his headstrong daughter.
Josh Corman exhibits some traits associated with the Virgo, which helps explain why he struggles to keep his personal relationships from falling apart. He tends to be very dogmatic in his approach to the world, which means that everything has to be done in the way that he thinks is appropriate, whether or not that’s what the people want to do. He also tends to be ruthlessly rational and unbending when it comes to almost every aspect of his life.
Regardless, because he's played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in one of his best roles, he still manages to be a fascinating character.
As Josh’s mother, Ruth clearly loves her son, and she’s quite willing to do a lot for him (including allowing him to come stay with her during the early days of the pandemic).
And, while she notices the strife between Josh and her current boyfriend, in typical Libra fashion she does everything that she can to maintain the peace and balance that she desires for her life, even though Josh clearly isn’t willing to meet her halfway.
Though he exhibits many Virgo traits, Josh is also very Scorpio-like in his outlook. There is a fundamental darkness to his inner life that he struggles with constantly, whether that’s his anxiety or his generally pessimistic outlook on life and its potential.
However, when he is willing to let his guard down, he can also exhibit Scorpio’s power to charm a room and to allow almost anyone to fall under their spell.
Josh’s relationship with his father, Artie, is almost as difficult as it is with his mother and sister, and it’s not hard to see why. Artie has all of the traits that are commonly associated with the Sagittarius, and that includes his generally fun and carefree attitude.
At the same time, it’s clear that he isn’t always the most reliable of people, that he will always go with what is most enjoyable at the moment, even if that isn’t the best in the long term. He is sure to become one of Hugo Weaving's best performances.
Josh’s brutally pragmatic approach to many aspects of his life makes sense when seen in light of the fact that his mother exhibits many of the traits of the Capricorn. Ruth Corman isn’t the type of person to let sentiment get in the way of telling someone, including and especially Josh, the truths that she thinks that they need to hear.
There’s an earth sign stubbornness and inflexibility to Ruth’s personality that, unsurprisingly, brings her into conflict with her son more often than not.
Emily appears near the very end of the series as a young woman that Josh has a Zoom date with, and while it’s clear that they have a connection, there’s a distance to her demeanor that is very much in keeping with the Aquarius.
It’s hard to define her, exactly, and it’s this indefinability that threatens to undercut the bond that she quickly forms with Josh, particularly when she makes comments about his life choices.
Megan is Josh’s ex-girlfriend, but it’s very clear that she still cares a lot about him. She has all of the empathy that is characteristic of Pisces, though there is also a faint bit of iciness to her persona that can also be found in this ultimate water sign.
Furthermore, she clearly has the creative impulse that is also a watchword for the Pisces, as evidenced by the fact that she has continued to pursue her music career even though Josh has abandoned his. Their relationship might not be as healthy as that between Roy and Keeley (Juno Temple's other famous role of 2021), but it is nevertheless fascinating.
