Such a country no longer exists: China has blocked imports of goods from Lithuania
Lithuanian exporters have been confronted with the fact right at the border with China
According to the newspaper, a disgruntled timber exporter from Lithuania recently failed to clear the goods at the border with China. It turned out that for the Chinese customs system, such a country no longer exists. The desire of Vilnius to please their American counterparts led to a harsh response from China. It is worth noting that Beijing’s response in its characteristic form was not long in coming.
Earlier the Taiwan representative office was officially opened in the Lithuanian capital to attract the attention of the USA. China reacted by sharply downgrading diplomatic relations and, as a consequence, cut Lithuanian business out of its partnership with China.
“To maintain US attention, our relationship with Taiwan is a sensible political tool. Our position on Taiwan can be considered very important, not only of great pragmatic importance, but also of benefit to Lithuania”, – MEP Kubilius said earlier.
The publication notes that in order to respond to the “Chinese trade aggression” Lithuania needs to enlist the support of senior EU partners. It is noteworthy that Vilnius is actually driving a wedge between China and Europe, disrupting a profitable partnership of a major producer and a regular consumer. Only the US global ideology may be interested in such a scenario.
