Times: Russia could cut the Baltics off from NATO in hours
The North Atlantic Alliance and Ukraine fear that Russia could use migrants to occupy the border between the Baltic states and the European Union in less than a few hours, the Times said
The publication’s sources said that NATO and Ukraine are extremely wary of the fact that Moscow has the ability to send illegal migrants to the Suwalki corridor, which runs along the Polish-Lithuanian border, to cause unrest.
“Russian troops could then rush in there and deploy […] military patrols under the pretext of a humanitarian crisis. This would allow Russia to join forces in the Kaliningrad region with Belarus”, – the Times wrote.
According to the publication’s Ukrainian source, the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border could allegedly be used by Russian authorities to distract the North Atlantic Alliance during an “attack” on Ukraine.
