Amazing Race: Why Caro & Ray Didn't Return After The Delay
Caro Viehweg and Ray Gantt competed on The Amazing Race season 33 as a new reality TV couple but chose not to come back after the long hiatus. The pair became fan favorites on Love Island USA and fans were excited to see them back on their screens. With Caro's extensive traveling experience, they were a strong team that had the potential to make it far in the competition. Here is the real reason the pair chose not to come back and compete on The Amazing Race.
Until she found Ray, Caro struggled to stay coupled in the villa during her time on Love Island USA. Caro and Ray paired up after he entered the villa on Day 15, and their romantic connection was immediate. During their last date, they made their relationship official, but unfortunately only came in third place on the show. Though they were not able to nab the grand prize, they seemed to have something strong enough to last in the real world. Caro and Ray had to make their new relationship work from opposite sides of the country. Their relationship was long-distance for a few months before The Amazing Race started filming, but wasn't destined to last.
During each of the three legs of the Race that Caro and Ray ran, they ranked in the middle of the pack. Many fans could see the cracks forming in their team, as the pair could not communicate well when they were stressed, and they were almost always worked up. With Caro questioning some of Ray's decisions, and Ray saying Caro was not being supportive enough, viewers began to sense that their romance would have an expiration date. The Amazing Race stopped production at the end of the third leg, in February 2020, due to COVID-19. In July 2020, via her Caro Viee YouTube channel, she confirmed that she had broken up with The Amazing Race's Ray. She said they split because he was not serious enough about their relationship. The pair proceeded to unfollow each other on Instagram and did not seem to stay friends. When production for the show started up again in September 2021, Caro and Ray had already been apart for over a year. Though watching them try to work together after going through a breakup would be highly entertaining for viewers who love drama, it did not seem possible at the time.
In addition to the breakup issue, Caro's work visa had expired, and she announced her plans to leave the U.S. for good in December 2020. Since leaving, she has spent time in Sweden, as well as her native Brazil. She said that she wanted to continue being a world traveler, but not on a competitive reality series like The Amazing Race. Another team that was unable to return was Amazing Race's Connie and Sam, due to her pregnancy during the extended break. Fans will have to wait and see what that means for the previously eliminated groups, as this might give them a chance at redemption.
