The Batman Reportedly Casts Game Of Thrones Actor As Thomas Wayne
The Batman may have cast Game of Thrones actor Luke Roberts for the role of Thomas Wayne. Robert Pattinson will debut as Warner Bros.' new iteration of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' upcoming movie. Aside from him, the film will also debut his father — Thomas Wayne, but casting for the character has been kept under wraps, until now.
Amidst a series of delays and the threat of a new one, The Batman maintains its March 2022 release date. Given this, more information about the film is trickling out thanks to Warner Bros.' marketing which has mostly focused on establishing Pattinson's new Gotham-based hero and his match-up with The Riddler (Paul Dano). Joining the pair in the cast are Zoë Kravitz's Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. There's a recent addition to the ensemble, however, if this new report comes to fruition.
As spotted by @WayneG1939 on Twitter, Game of Thrones alum Luke Roberts previously teased on his Instagram about preparing for a role that he couldn't disclose due to an NDA. The image shows the actor holding a comic book which has been identified as Batman: Sins of the Father which is supposedly for his research on playing Thomas Wayne in The Batman. The fan in question points to a shot of Thomas Wayne in the trailer, which they used to identify Roberts.

Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize the English actor for appearing on season 6, episode 3 titled "Oathbreaker" as Ser Arthur Dayne. Roberts also had a starring role on Black Sails as Woodes Rogers and the headliner on Ransom as Eric Beaumont. His next project is the movie Dampyr where he plays Draka. It's worth noting, however, that there's no concrete word yet about Roberts joining The Batman as the older Wayne. Warner Bros. and no one from the film has commented on his involvement, as well. Nevertheless, based on looks alone, he does resemble Pattinson, making it easier to sell them as father and son.
It's uncertain how Reeves will handle Thomas and his subsequent death, which is a defining moment in Bruce Wayne's arc. Over the last several years, there have been a couple of iterations of the character with the DCEU's played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and then, in Todd Phillips' Joker, portrayed by Brett Cullen. However, aside from his death, expect that The Batman will delve a little deeper into Thomas' character. As hinted by Roberts' image, it seems like the film will feature him during his younger days. This makes sense since the film's premise includes Bruce learning about his family's involvement in the systemic corruption in Gotham.
