Robert Pattinson In Talks To Star In Parasite Director's Next Movie
The Batman's Robert Pattinson is in talks to star in Parasite director Bong Joon-ho's next movie currently set up at Warner Bros. The film, currently untitled, is an adaptation of Edward Ashton's upcoming sci-fi novel Mickey7 set in the future and centered on the titular disposable employee sent on a human expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Mickey7 is enlisted for the job given his ability to have a new body regenerated should he die with most of his memories intact.
Bong Joon-ho began building a cult following in his home country of South Korea with his early works Baking Dogs Never Bite and the acclaimed crime thriller Memories of Murder before beginning to breakout in the international scene with the 2006 monster film The Host. Bong would further gain international attention for his acclaimed adaptation of Snowpiercer led by Chris Evans, which he would later follow up with the well-received Netflix sci-fi adventure Okja. The filmmaker recently made history with his black comedy thriller Parasite, which brought home four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, and now he appears to have his eyes set on the future.
Nearly two years after his record-setting Oscars sweep, Deadline has brought word that Parasite director Bong Joon-ho is putting together his next project. The untitled adaptation of the sci-fi novel Mickey7 is currently set up at Warner Bros., with Bong producing via his Offscreen banner alongside Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company and Plan B, and Robert Pattinson has entered talks to star in the in the film. Sources report that Bong entered talks for the project late last year and became properly attached to the project over the holiday break as they met with multiple A-list actors in their 30s, including Pattinson.
A lot of curiosity has been directed to what the future would hold for Bong Joon-ho following his record-setting Parasite nearly three years ago. There has been some division about the HBO Parasite series adaptation in the works from he and Succession executive producer Adam McKay, though the original filmmaker has expressed his positive hopes towards the project set in the midst of the film. Bong has reportedly been working on an animated Korean-language project since 2018, with seeming confirmation in early 2021 it would be his next project, though the untitled Mickey7 project appears to be taking priority as it comes together quickly.
It's also interesting to note that in addition to marking Parasite director Bong Joon-ho's first proper Hollywood studio production, the film also marks the latest big-studio project for Pattinson at Warner Bros. After exploring the world of independent cinema following the conclusion of the Twilight movie franchise, Pattinson has recently been taking on more tentpole productions again in recent years beginning with his work in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi action blockbuster Tenet. Audiences can next look forward to seeing Pattinson head into the world of DC Comics in Matt Reeves' The Batman from WB in theaters on March 4.
