RDR2: Cemetery Creeping Leads To Awkward NPC Conversation

0

A seemingly normal sneak through a cemetery leads to a truly awkward and bizarre conversation between Arthur Morgan and an NPC in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar Games' critically acclaimed 2018 title allows players to roam an open-world version of the Old West as Arthur, a veteran member of the notorious Van der Linde gang who finds himself on the run from the law and other gangs following a failed bank heist.

Just like Rockstar’s other massively successful open-world title Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 lets players roam the countryside and come across many strange events and character interactions - either as a glitch or part of Rockstar’s meticulously-crafted animal and NPC AI. Fans have seen Arthur Morgan turn into an old man thanks to a glitch, get followed by a drunken Sean MacGuire, and even come across an NPC that's dressed exactly like him - something the outlaw repays with early death. Red Dead Redemption 2’s NPCs tend to perform some strange acts of their own, like suddenly appearing to aid Artur in a bar fight or reacting with understandable anger when he awakens them in the middle of the night.

Reddit user Mando_Builds was walking through a cemetery as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2 when they came across a female NPC apparently mourning a deceased loved one. As shown in a brief gameplay clip Mando_Builds posted to r/RDR2, Arthur is spotted by this unnamed woman, triggering a short conversation between them in which the outlaw asks her how her day is going in an oddly calm manner. From there, the grieving lady gives a nonsensical answer of “yeah,” prompting Arthur to leave her alone and carry on his way. While this seems to be some sort of glitch given how the woman’s response doesn’t match up with her current situation or what Arthur asked her, some players in the comment section have noted that this is a common line of dialogue for Red Dead Redemption 2 NPCs who notice Arthur acting suspicious, and others have joked that she was too busy to give Arthur a more concrete answer of how her day was going.

Since it first launched back in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 39 million copies, making it one of the highest-selling video games of all time. Fans are already curious about Rockstar's potential plans for a third Red Dead Redemption game, while others are hoping that the studio will add more support to Red Dead Online, the massively multiplayer online component that launched alongside RDR2. These dedicated players have started petitions in the wake of Rockstar’s seemingly lackluster plans for Red Dead Online in 2022, with the last major content being January’s disappointing batch of bonus rewards.

While Red Dead’s online offerings have left players wanting more, fans are still finding plenty of interesting side details and random AI events in the single-player Red Dead Redemption 2. This seems to include grieving NPCs that are in no mood to answer Arthur Morgan’s strange inquires, returning them with a puzzling response that could leave even the most grizzled cowboy scratching their head.
