U.S. dollar dips as sterling rises

NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Wednesday amid an upward momentum in the British pound.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.22 percent at 95.5180.

Sterling climbed after official statistics released on Wednesday showed that British inflation in December surged to its highest level in 30 years.
