If I were Edward Zheng I would be thanking my lucky stars. He may be upset and dismayed at the name-calling and all the vitriol that came his way but if he has any sense he would do well to reflect on what he actually has.

He could be in charge of a particular free-scoring club that is rich in talent and running away with this league yet has to distribute cardboard clappers to create a noise and an artificial atmosphere. Or has fans that feel the need to wave big flags, bang drums and call themselves ‘ultras’- ffs.

If instead of patronising fans by claiming communication differences is a cultural thing he should have fronted up that it is out of pure laziness and ignorance towards its supporters.

A more experienced and skilled CEO would have done their homework and sussed that this clubs USP is not its trophy-laden history, its world-class stadium or nationwide allegiance of plastic fans. Instead, they would tap into the one thing that makes this club brilliant and that is the rich vein of loyal and partisan support. Fans who never expect a lot but have always given more than they have received. We are not a club that plays its football by the Thames or plies its trade in a former Olympic or Commonwealth Stadium, this is Blues - We are Small Heath.

If he didn’t know who we were before he knows us now because we’re in his face.
