Sex Lives Of College Girls: 10 Questions Fans Have After Season 1

Mindy Kaling has struck gold again with her latest teen comedy-drama series The Sex Lives of College Girls. In fact, the series has been such a hit that it was renewed for a second season less than a month after it was released on HBO Max.

The series centers on four freshman roommates who come from very different backgrounds as they adjust to life in college and figure out who they really are. As with any Kaling show, there's a lot of drama, laughter, and sex positivity. Season 1 also ends on some massive cliffhangers that have left fans wondering how season 2 will address them.

Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) had one of the most shocking transformations over season 1. As a small-town girl who doesn't come from a wealthy background, Kimberly had the hardest time adjusting to life at Essex which led her to do some questionable things like cheating on a major test after she got wrapped up in a relationship.

Though Kimberly was able to plead her case to the advisory board and keep her spot at Essex, her scholarship was revoked. Since her parents can't afford the tuition and Kimberly is already working herself overtime just to have any money, fans are interested to see how Kimberly ends up staying at the college.

Leighton's (Reneé Rapp) arc exploring her sexuality is one of the best LGTBQ+ representations in television in a long time. Over the course of the season, fans watched Leighton embrace her sexuality in secret while struggling to convince herself that who she loves doesn't have to define her.

At the end of season 1, Leighton comes out to Kimberly who gives her an inspiring speech everyone needed to hear. With at least one ally on her side, fans are hopeful that Leighton will come out to the rest of her roommates and later her family so she can be her authentic self.

Debates are still being had over whether or not Kimberly and Nico's (Gavin Leatherwood) relationship is a toxic one but the one thing that many can agree on is that they're cute together when things are working. And while Nico is part of the reason Kimberly got her suspension revoked, he also helped not get expelled by giving her the tests his frat was saving.

Now that it seems like things between Nico and his girlfriend are officially over, some fans are hopeful that means he can pursue Kimberly seriously. The real question is whether or not Kimberly wants to date Nico after everything he's put her through.

Bela (Amrit Kaur) had quite the first semester at Essex as well. After fighting like hell to get into Essex's famous comedy magazine, Bela quickly realized it wasn't at all what she dreamed of. Instead of staying quiet, Bela did the right thing and sacrificed her career to call out the magazine's toxic culture.

Bela might have thought her comedy dreams were over, but then she was approached to start an all-female magazine. While there's no denying that Bela and the other women are hilarious, it'll be interesting to see how the rest of the school responds to their magazine.

Despite finally having the freedom to hook up with whomever she wants, Leighton quickly starts a romance with Alicia (Midori Francis), her enemy turned lover. Leighton and Alicia might be one of the healthiest couples on the show if it weren't for the fact that Leighton makes them sneak around since she's not publicly out.

This puts a major strain on their relationship and leads to Alicia breaking up with Leighton. Since this is the only thing these two really fought about and Leighton has taken the first steps by telling someone, fans are hopeful that these two will get a second chance at love in season 2.

While the parents of the four girls don't play a major role in The Sex Lives of College Girls, they are mentioned enough to have little plots of their own. That's especially true when it comes to Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) and her mother Evette (Sherri Shepherd).

It's clear from the beginning that these two don't see eye-to-eye and that Whitney thinks her mom puts her job above her mothering duties. However, as the series progresses these two begin to understand each other more than ever before. Fans are hopeful that the bond they've started continues to grow.

Nico telling Leighton that his frat is one strike away from being terminated might have seemed like a throwaway line, but instead, it set up the stakes for Kimberly's plot later on in the season. With her status as a student unknown, Kimberly decides the only way to save herself is to rat out Nico's frat for the cheating ring they've been running for years.

Now that the school is aware of what's been going on, it seems unlikely that they'll be able to continue recruiting new members. Fans are also curious as to what's going to happen to Nico if the frat finds out he helped Kimberly take them down.

While Bela spends most of the season vying for a spot at the comedy magazine, she still finds time to hook up with guys on the side. However, out of the four girls, she's the only one who doesn't form a strong bond with one -- or at least that's what fans thought.

In the final episodes, Bela's rival Eric (Mekki Leeper) ends up redeeming himself in more ways than one, and fans of Kaling's other shows were quick to pick up on his love interest potential. Fans are hopeful that Bela and Eric will become the new enemies to lovers couple.

Whitney got herself in a fine mess in season 1 after hooking up with her soccer team's assistant coach. Though everyone was a consenting adult, rules were still broken which led to the firing of not only the assistant coach but also the team's head coach too.

While Essex found the team a temporary coach, she knew nothing about soccer which led to the ladies losing their playoff game. Since soccer is a big part of Whitney's arc, fans are hopeful that a new, even better, head coach will be hired.

In between all the soccer drama, Whitney did end up finding time for love as well. In fact, she quickly hits it off with Kimberly's co-worker Canaan (Christopher Meyer). However, the two don't spend as much time together as they would like since Whitney is busy with soccer and Canaan is busy studying and working.

There's definitely love blossoming between these two though which is why fans are eagerly awaiting season 2 to see where their relationship goes. Perhaps they'll become the biggest "ship" of the series.
