Murderville Trailer: Conan O'Brien & Will Arnett Solve Crime W/ Improv
The trailer for the new Netflix comedy show Murderville features Will Arnett, Conan O'Brien, and more solving crimes with improv. Arnett leads the show, starring as Terry Seattle, a detective solving murders with the help of a new partner with each case. The partners in question will be a new comedian for each episode, including O'Brien, Kumail Nanjiani, Ken Jeong, Marshawn Lynch, Annie Murphy, and Sharon Stone.
Murderville comes from showrunner Krister Johnson (Wet Hot American Summer) and features a recurring cast that includes Arnett, Haneefah Wood as Chief Ronda Jenkins-Seattle, Lilan Bowden as Medical Examiner Amber Kang, and Phillip Smithey as Detective Darren ‘Daz’ Philips. The series is based on the BBC Three show Murder in Successville, which aired from 2015 to 2017 and similarly featured a who's-who of British comedy guest stars. The unscripted show is a first for Netflix in terms of doing a regular comedy series in that format.
Netflix has now released a trailer for Murderville, which gives viewers a chance to see how the improv show will work. The show appears to focus on a specific location setting, be it a crime scene, office, coroner, or the like, where Arnett and his improv partner attempt to solve the case without a script. Guest stars can be seen breaking character and laughing, which is one of the things that makes impov so fun, seeing how long each player can "keep their cool." Arnett has had a strong run on the TV side lately, starring as the host of the reality show LEGO Masters, Muppets Haunted Mansion, and a guest role on The Morning Show. The actor recently replaced Armie Hammer in director Taika Waititi's soccer film Next Goal Wins with Michael Fassbender, which releases later this year, after Hammer became the subject of Me Too-related accusations. Arnett is also joining Andy Samberg to help voice the upcoming Borderlands spinoff video game Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
Imrov comedy is always a lot of fun, especially with top-tier talent involved. Arnett has been a great comedic force, from his work on Arrested Development to The LEGO Batman Movie, his signature voice and comedic style has been a welcome addition to any project he's linked to. Having a host of guest stars only makes the proceedings that much better, and the line-up for Murderville season 1 should spark plenty of laughs, goofs, and outright hilarity.
