Final Fantasy Origins Final Trailer Is Even Weirder Than The First

0

The final trailer for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin has been released and it's even weirder than the original trailer. Stranger of Paradise was announced during Square Enix's 2021 Summer Showcase, where it quickly earned memetic status. This was thanks to the trailer repeating one word over and over again: chaos.

Stranger of Paradise is an upcoming action RPG with a story that is meant to be a dark retelling of the original Final Fantasy game. The initial trailer showed a self-proclaimed group of "Warriors of Light" as they fought Garland in the Chaos Shrine, which was the first dungeon in the original Final Fantasy. The response to the game might not have been what Square Enix was expecting, as the constant use of the word "Chaos" earned Stranger of Paradise tons of memes online. Since then, the gameplay trailers and demos of Stranger of Paradise have toned down the usage of chaos, though the fans still love quoting it whenever the game is mentioned.

Square Enix has released the final trailer for Stranger of Paradise, confirming that it's on track for its March 18 release date. This new Final Fantasy Origins trailer has caused a stir online, due to how truly strange it is. From its bizarre choice of Frank Sinatra music to its reimaginings of classic FF villains, the new Final Fantasy Origins trailer manages to be even weirder than the first one.

The final trailer for Stranger of Paradise is more upbeat than the previous trailers, which have ranged from showing the protagonists as being obsessed with killing Chaos, to classic Final Fantasy heroes being killed or turned into villains. The new trailer presents the story in a more positive light, with scenes showing Garland befriending Astos (one of the bosses of the original game) and doing a peculiar fist bump, to Garland marrying Princess Sarah while holding a smartphone.

There are also bizarre scenes that suggest Garland is not a native to the world, such as one where he's standing in a white room with a digitized version of Princess Sarah, while another scene from the game plays out on a screen behind him. The use of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" is the icing on the cake, as few would have ever guessed that a Sinatra song would have ever appeared in the trailer for a Final Fantasy game. It feels as if Square Enix is now courting the memetic status of the game, following the positive reception to the Chaos memes.

Stranger of Paradise is living up to its name as being a strange game. Its interpretation of the world of the original Final Fantasy is a bizarre one, with an approach that seems to be going for something in the Isekai genre. 2022 will mark the 35th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series and the release of the original game, and if nothing else, Stranger of Paradise is at least going to be an interesting take on the first Final Fantasy. Fans have already had a bit of a remake of the game, in the form of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, so now it's time to get weird.
