The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Saturday 29th January) - Summerville out, Minamino in?
Good Morning. It's Saturday 29th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Summerville out, Minamino in?
Italian football journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Hamburg are among a number of clubs interested in signing Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville. Negotiations are ongoing with Leeds set to decide soon. Summerville is said to be keen on a move due to the lack of first team opportunities at Leeds but with the squad threadbare and Cody Drameh already departed this summer, Leeds would need to bring in a replacement before he was allowed to depart.
Liverpool’s imminent acquisition of Porto winger Luis Diaz could mean they are open to trimming their squad and a player who Leeds have shown interest in previously becomes available, Japanese forward Takumi Minamino. Liverpool previously knocked back for Minamino, however the Reds’ change in stance could revive that move before Deadline Day. He would add some much-needed depth for Marcelo Bielsa in attack.
Should we be concerned another U23 player is wanting away? Given Summerville’s performances h=this season should he be given more opportunities? If he did leave would Minamino be a valued addition to the squad?
Leeds in fight to sign Aberdeen right back Calvin Ramsay
With young right back Cody Drameh departing for Cardiff on loan, Leeds have turned their attention to Aberdeen’s young right back Calvin Ramsay. The Scot has become very highly rated since breaking through for Aberdeen this season. Several Premier League clubs including Newcastle, Watford and Leicester have all expressed an interest in him. And the latter even had a bid turned down. But it now appears to be a two-horse race for Ramsay’s signature according to Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.
He claims Leeds are in competition with Serie A side Bologna. di Marzio has said a real transfer challenge is underway between the Serie A side Bologna and Leeds. The offers made by the two clubs are similar, with the difference that Leeds would leave the player on loan at Aberdeen until the end of the season. The Yorkshire club’s offer is around £3.5 million plus bonuses and a high percentage on future resale for the Scottish footballer.
Luke Ayling isn’t getting any younger, which perhaps made it more surprising that Leeds let Cody Drameh depart on loan. Drameh was surely set to be the first choice right back in a few years time? But is that decision a little clearer not Leeds have shown an interest in Ramsay? Could he be our future right back?
West ham preparing shock bid for Raphinha
The Mirror are reporting West Ham 'prepared to make shock bid for Leeds star Raphinha before deadline day' with manager David Moyes making the highly-rated Brazilian winger a 'priority target' following his impressive season. The winger is under contract at Marcelo Bielsa's side until 2024 and Leeds are keen to sign him to a new deal and would be willing to offer him a significant pay-rise in order to do so. It would likely be tough to sign Raphinha by transfer deadline day but one advantage they would have is the attraction of playing in Europe - with the Hammers still in the Europa League.
Even if Leeds bring in no new players this window would signing Raphinha to a longer term deal represent good business? With clubs across Europe interested in Raphinha would West Ham even be a good move for him, surely he is destined for greater things?
