After playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons, Seferian-Jenkins was immediately released from the team following his second DUI arrest, according to Sports Illustrated.
He then went to the New York Jets in 2016 and to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018.
Seferian-Jenkins signed with the Patriots in 2019 but was released before ever playing with them; the team cited “personal reasons” as the basis for his departure.
The athlete has previously spoken of his substance abuse issues, telling ESPN in 2017 that he “was dependent on self-medicating himself so I could deal with s***.”
“Once I figured out what was going on, I got help. I went to the doctor and figured everything out. I’ve been straight,” Seferian-Jenkins said at the time.
“It’s not like I’m dying. It’s not like I craved it, wake up in the morning and I need a drink. It was just like, I’m having a tough time, I’m dealing with something, it’s 6:30 p.m. and let’s crack one back.”
