Pokémon Legends: Arceus Starter Evolutions - Pros & Cons Of Samurott
Pokémon Legends: Arceus features starters from past generations, but the final evolutions of these Pokémon have new regional forms. In addition to looking different, these new Hisuian forms of Typhlosion, Decidueye, and Samurott have duel typing that can give them an edge in combat. For those interested in choosing Oshawott as their starter - and who'd like to focus on getting Hisuian Samurott as their final starter evolution - here are some of the pros and cons.
Of course, some players may want to choose their starter purely on aesthetics or for nostalgia. Which starter is best is fairly subjective, but looking at how each starter evolution works within Legends: Arceus' story and stacks up against the others is key to understanding why a player should - or shouldn't - choose a specific Pokémon. Thankfully, any of these starters can be caught later in the game, but it's still good to know which Pokémon players should start with, especially considering how powerful they can become - and how much someone can get attached to their starter.
In terms of appearance, Hisuian Samurott hasn't changed much other than getting some color alterations. Fans of the original Gen 5 Pokémon's design should still love its Hisuian regional form, too. So, what are the benefits and downsides to using Hisuian Samurott in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?
Of all three starters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Oshawott may be the most balanced - especially during the early portions of the game. Because there isn't a great selection of Water-type Pokémon available immediately in Arceus, it can be a good idea to choose Oshawott. Once it evolves into Hisuian Samurott, it becomes a Water/Dark-type. This means its moves are super effective against Hisuian Typhlosion's Fire/Ghost typing, but it's susceptible to Hisuian Decidueye's Flying/Fighting-type. Many of the Noble Pokémon in Legends: Arceus are weak to Dark, so Samurott can be an excellent Pokémon to use against them.
Besides being weak to Hisuian Decidueye's Fighting/Flying-type, Hisuian Samurott can stand up pretty well against many Pokémon in Legends: Arceus' Pokédex. Overall, there aren't many downsides to choosing Oshawott as a starter and evolving it into Hisuian Samurott. It comes with a good balance of offensive and defensive moves, which means it can protect itself somewhat from types it's weak against.
Ultimately, the decision will come down to the player for which starter they want to choose and which starter evolution they want to pursue. Thankfully, the other starters can be caught in the wild later on in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so players won't have to worry too much about having decision remorse. As a well-balanced Pokémon, Hisuian Samurott may just be the best of the bunch.
