Nebraska Lt. Gov. Mike Foley shared his strong hope that the U.S. Supreme Court soon will overturn its “wicked” abortion ruling and allow states to protect unborn babies again during a pro-life rally Saturday at the state Capitol.
KMTV News Now reports thousands of pro-life advocates participated in the 48th annual Walk for Life along with Foley, U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse, Congressmen Jeff Fortenberry and other Nebraska leaders.
The walk, organized by Nebraska Right to Life, is held annually near the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which forces states to legalize abortion on demand up to viability. This year, the Supreme Court is considering a case that could overturn the infamous abortion ruling, giving pro-life advocates renewed hope for unborn babies’ future.
“I can’t tell the future any better than you can. But I have a sense a great moment is coming and that the United States Supreme Court will very soon one day tear down that wicked Roe v. Wade and send it where it belongs,” Foley told the crowd.

For nearly 50 years, Roe has allowed unique, living unborn babies to be killed for basically any reason up to birth. Since 1973, more than 63 million unborn babies have been aborted and countless mothers and fathers have suffered.
More than 2,000 unborn babies are aborted in Nebraska every year, according to state health statistics. Each unborn baby was a unique, valuable human being who did not have to die.
Sandy Danek, executive director of Nebraska Right to Life, said the pro-life movement cares about helping mothers as well as their babies, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
“We passionately believe in not only protecting the child in the womb, but helping those women who are in an unplanned pregnancy,” Danek told the marchers. “We know from some of the women that have suffered abortion that it is not a good option — physically and emotionally.”
Many other speakers also expressed hope that the massive suffering and death caused by Roe will be over soon. Sasse encouraged pro-life advocates to keep up the good work for life and praised them for helping so many mothers and babies already.
“Thanks for what you do on behalf of babies and moms who are in situations that are difficult,” the senator said. “There’s lots to be done in the courts. There’s lots to be done in the legislature. There’s a lot more to be done with moms who are scared and worried and grateful that people like you come alongside to love them.”
This winter, state lawmakers are considering several bills to protect unborn babies from abortion. One, sponsored by pro-life state Sen. Julie Slama, would ban abortions on unborn babies once their heartbeat is detectable.
The Guttmacher Institute predicts that Nebraska would be one of 26 states that would ban abortions if Roe is overturned.
