Evil Season 3 Release Date Window Set For Summer 2022
The third installment of the popular supernatural drama series Evil gets a release window of summer 2022 on the Paramount+ streaming service.
Evil season 3 will premiere in the summer of 2022 on Paramount+. Debuting on CBS in September 2019 before moving to the Paramount+ streaming service for season 2, the supernatural drama focuses on the forensic psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) as she works with Catholic assessor David Acosta (Mike Colter) and contractor Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) to investigate cases that could potentially have a supernatural bent. The series regularly blends a case-of-the-week structure with more longstanding and increasingly complex mythology, gaining some comparisons to The X-Files in the process.
Evil season 2 continued on the general success of the initial batch of episodes. With its move to Paramount+, and an early renewal announcement for season 3, the show was able to rely on more explicit and mature storytelling. Evil was also able to take more narrative risks, such as a largely silent episode that garnered praise from critics and audiences alike. This was reflected in a number of year-ending retrospectives, which lauded the streaming drama as a frequently surprising and inventive hour of television.
Now, as part of the TCA presentation for Paramount+, it was announced that Evil season 3 will be debuting on the streaming service in summer 2022. Though an exact release window was not revealed, the announcement is in line with the show’s previous installment. Evil season 2 premiered in June 2021. Consisting of 13 episodes, and releasing on a weekly schedule, season 2 concluded in October. If the same holds for Evil season 3, fans could be looking at a spooky summer that continues into Halloween.
Addressing the many unanswered questions left by Evil season 2, co-creators Robert and Michelle King seemed to indicate that the supernatural drama could run for several more seasons. They said some questions may get answered relatively soon, while others will take years to unfurl. Having co-created The Good Wife and its spinoff The Good Fight, the Kings are no strangers to long-running acclaimed dramas. Evil is perhaps a different beast, however, given its genre elements. Many viewers will want to know, for example, what’s been going with Sheryl (Christine Lahti) and Leland (Michael Emerson). One question that will likely be addressed is the significance of that season 2 finale kiss between David and Kristen.
In the closing moments of the episode, a distraught Kristen seeks out the guidance of David. No longer just an assessor, having been ordained as a priest, Kristen confesses to David that she killed Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie) after LeRoux repeatedly threatened to harm her children. She adds that she’s thinking of killing Leland Townsend for the same reason. Pushed forward in the intensity of the moment, or so it seems, Kristen and David share a kiss, paying off a moment that has been building since the show first began. But did Kristen intend for David to do her dirty work? Evil fans won’t have to wait too long to find out.
