Tom Holland says he wanted Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in as much of Spider-Man: No Way Home as possible. The film from director Jon Watts is the third solo-outing for Holland's MCU Peter Parker and released on December 17 to strong reviews and a generally ecstatic fanbase. No Way Home's box office takings continue to grow, though it currently stands as the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time worldwide.
Making use of the multiverse storytelling device that is becoming increasingly prominent in Phase 4 Marvel projects, No Way Home sees the returns of multiple characters from Sony's past Spider-Man franchises, along with their original actors. Despite it being hidden in official promotional material, this included Maguire and Garfield, who played the two previous iterations of the friendly neighborhood hero. The on-screen union of the three Spideys was an emotional experience for fans, as well as for the characters themselves, which Garfield credits with making No Way Home resonate so strongly with audiences.
Now, in an interview with Yahoo!, Holland doubles-down on his support for the concept and says he wanted his two predecessors in as many scenes as possible. The English actor reports that he, Garfield, and Maguire were very much a team on-set, looking to elevate each other's performances as much as they could. Holland wasn't at all concerned with sharing the spotlight, and reports being delighted to have shared screen time with them. Check out his full comment below:
Something that was so nice was that we really shared it amongst ourselves. We were really a team. All we wanted to do was elevate each other in any way that we could. And for me, the more, the merrier. Every time I was turning the page I was hoping that they were in it and they were until the very end. So I was delighted to share the screen with them.

Though Marvel and Sony managed to keep them out of the trailers, Maguire and Garfield had far more than cameo roles, with a significant section of the film dedicated to the three needing to learn how to act as a team. In addition to funny callbacks and jokes directed at the differences between the franchises, their inclusion provided some of the movie's most moving moments, particularly Garfield's Peter Parker being able to work through the trauma of Gwen Stacy's death by saving the MCU's MJ. Indeed, fans have been so receptive to their returns that campaigns have broken out to revive both Maguire's Spider-Man 4 and Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Regardless of whether those specific projects are revisited, Sony would be crazy not to capitalize on the renewed fervor for Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men, particularly if the actors are willing to reprise their roles in future films. In particular, momentum has been growing to have Garfield play Spider-Man opposite Tom Hardy's Venom, something the former has said he would be interested in pursuing. For now, though, audiences can take pleasure that Spider-Man: No Way Home actually came to pass.
