Tom Holland Also Wants To See Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man 3
Tom Holland reveals that he wants to see Andrew Garfield return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Marking the end of Holland's Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home has not only dominated at the box office but also currently holds a record-breaking 98% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film contains a number of past Spider-Man villains, including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, but also features the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men.
Spider-Man: No Way Home has been praised for the ways in which it has managed to unite three generations of Spider-Man fans and for its deft handling of Maguire and Garfield's return. Since appearing in the hit film, there have been renewed calls from fans for both Maguire and Garfield to continue their respective franchises in additional standalone Spider-Man movies. Due to Garfield's more emotional arc in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the fact that he only got two standalone films when both Maguire and Holland got three, pleas from fans for a third Amazing Spider-Man movie have been particularly passionate.
In a new interview with ComicBook, Holland has weighed in on the recent fan push to see Garfield return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and voices his support for his No Way Home co-star. Citing the incredible fan reaction to the scene where Garfield's Spider-Man saves Zendaya, Holland reveals that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is something that he would "love to see." Check out Holland's full comment below:
"I would love to see The Amazing Spider-Man 3. I think what was so wonderful was how Andrew was able to kind of make amends with the character and the studio, to kind of win the general public back. That scene where he saved Zendaya, like, the fan reactions in the theater, was so spectacular. So, should Sony decide to do that, they would have my full support and, obviously, so would Andrew."
Mirroring the tragic scene in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when he fails to save Gwen (Emma Stone) before she hits the ground, the moment when Garfield's Spider-Man saves Zendaya is particularly powerful and sees the character find a touching moment of redemption, which has clearly resonated with fans. It's not clear if Sony is interested in having Garfield return for an Amazing Spider-Man 3, but Garfield himself has revealed that he's open to the idea. The actor has previously gone on record about his time making The Amazing Spider-Man films, calling the experience "heartbreaking," but it seems like he's hopeful returning for a third film would turn out differently.
Considering the overwhelming fan response and the record-breaking box office performance of Spider-Man: No Way Home, a third Amazing Spider-Man movie certainly doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility. Now, with Holland also voicing support for the project, it's clear that the demand to see Garfield return for another solo outing is strong. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn't fare well with audiences or critics, but Spider-Man: No Way Home has proven that there's still plenty left to explore with Garfield's character if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 ever does happen.
