I FEEL sorry for Prime Ministers' wives. It's a rotten job and the main problem is it's not a job at all. Wives of PMs don't exist in an official capacity, unlike the First Lady, with her own status and office in The White House. Here they exist as a sort of hologram, a vision at their husband's side, smiling and looking stylish because our First Ladies are punchbags for the press, who will gleefully rubbish any fashion blunders.
