Wolverine's Forgotten Daughter Has Even More Superpowered Claws

0

In Marvel Comics, the X-Men’s Wolverine has more children running around than you can shake a piece of adamantium at, and one of his forgotten daughters named Wild Thing, has a version of his claws that are far more superpowered than what her father uses. Being the child of Wolverine and Elektra sure does have its perks, especially when Wild Thing’s claws are psychic in nature.

Created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Lim in the late 90s, Wild Thing aka Rina Logan burst onto the comic scene in the fifth issue of J2, a comic that followed the future exploits of Juggernaut’s heroic son, Zane Yama. Part of the alternate reality called MC2, Wild Thing ended up getting a short-lived series during this time, immediately finding her place within the folds of Marvel’s new and exciting world that unfortunately only lasted a couple of years before going dormant.

Dubbed Earth-982 in Marvel’s multiverse, Rina is introduced here as the daughter of Wolverine, and only later is it revealed that her mother is the brutal assassin and Daredevil associated character of Elektra. Sharing a multitude of mutant abilities inherent to her father as well as the martial arts skills of her mother, Rina is already at the top of her game when fans first meet her, with the addition of a uniquely powered version of her father’s claws setting her apart from the rest of Wolverine's kids to boot.

Imbued with the slightest of psionic powers, Wild Thing’s psychic claws are unlike Wolverine’s as they aren’t bonded to her body, nor pop out of her hands in that patented snikt kind of way. Instead, Rina’s weapons of choice manifest on the back of her hands and look like a cross between Wolverine’s three-pronged claws and Elektra’s sai, allowing her to inflict mental damage on her foes’ rather than physical damage. However, if Wild Thing really puts her concentration into it, she can turn her psychic claws solid and dole out the kind of physical violence that her father thrives on daily.

Unlike Wolverine’s other daughter, X-23 aka Laura Kinney, who has claws that more or less resemble her father’s in look and function, Wild Thing getting psychic weapons that are more Psylocke-esque in their utilization is an intriguing and wildly unique way to bring her into the folds of Wolverine’s extended family. Fathering other children like Daken that mostly keep in step with the physiological way their claws mimic their father’s, Rina superpowered claws take the cake for the best reinterpretation of Wolverine’s powers, rivaling even Logan’s own inexplicable (and infamous) “hot claws” that lasted about as long as expected given their head-scratching reveal.

So although Rina is part of a future that may never come to pass, the Marvel multiverse ensures that she isn’t too far away for a quick cameo appearance or chat with her dad if needed. Wolverine’s claws are dangerous on their own, but Wild Thing’s pack a different kind of punch that’s wholly and uniquely hers.
