Doctor Strange is Unraveled in Stunning Multiverse of Madness Fan Poster

0

Fan-made poster art for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees Benedict Cumberbatch unraveled by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. Fans are eagerly anticipating the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, which will continue Stephen Strange’s studies into the mystic arts, breaking the boundaries of the multiverse itself. The film will be directed by former Spider-Man filmmaker Sam Raimi and is expected to be somewhat more in line with a horror picture inside the confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Audiences are most interested in Doctor Strange 2's dedication toward exploring the multiverse, which has been a major recurring element across several projects in Phase 4 of the MCU. The Disney+ show Loki introduced the concept of diverging timelines and variants of established characters, which was then followed up on in What If…?, an anthology series spanning different universes. This then extended to the movies in Spider-Man: No Way Home in which Doctor Strange himself meddled with reality, bringing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man together with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions. With this gradual ramping up of the stakes in regard to the multiverse, there is great anticipation about what audiences can expect to see, with several cameos from former Marvel actors rumored to feature.

Instagram user @elilusionista.cl has created a psychedelic fan poster that sees Doctor Strange’s face unraveled to reveal the Scarlet Witch inside. The poster adopts a mostly red color scheme in line with Wanda Maximoff’s alter ego, with the two sides of her crown split on either side of Strange’s head. The top of the poster is also decorated with runes and spells that match those cast by both characters who are rooted in the magical side of the MCU.

The poster is in line with some of the most surreal art found in the Doctor Strange comics and very much matches the concept of the known laws of reality and space being subverted. From the footage seen so far, it looks as though Raimi will continue to experiment with the abstract visuals established by Scott Derrickson in the original film. The director had taken an extended break through the 2010s focusing more of his time on producing, so it will be interesting to see what he does with his return to superhero blockbusters and a film with a seemingly boundless concept.

Scarlet Witch being imprinted on the inside of Doctor Strange’s unraveled head does have connotations of her being responsible for the chaos or at least having a significant role in it. The film will pick up from the ending of WandaVision in which Wanda adopted the title of Scarlet Witch after keeping an entire town hostage in her own reality in order to try and live a life with her deceased partner Vision. Rumors have suggested that Wanda Maximoff will be the villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after she was last seen studying the Darkhold. It may turn out that, amongst the chaos of a multiversal event, the main conflict may come down to a battle between the two most powerful magic users in the Marvel Universe.
