The Walking Dead: The 10 Best Characters From Telltale's Games
October 2010 saw the release of the popular zombie show, The Walking Dead, and with its massive success, Telltale Games created the episodic adventure game of the same name in April 2012. The game was met with massive success, as well, and resulted in a cult following.
The last season of Telltale's The Walking Dead game was released in 2018 and since then, it's been regarded as one of the best video games and has won over 70 different awards. Many fans reflect on the games' characters and just how well-developed and lovable they are.
10 Violet
One of the 10 surviving students from Ericson's Boarding School, Violet makes her debut in the game's final season, season four. A lone-wolf, Violet is shown to react poorly and irrationally to conflict, yet fans love her for her loyalty, survival skills, and her similarity to Clementine's personality, the game's main character.
Violet is also loved by fans because she's the game's first openly lesbian character. Players also have the chance to decide if Clementine pursues a romantic relationship, which has also been praised by fans. However, Violet's death is determined by the choices the player makes throughout the game, as well.
9 Louis
Another member of the students from Ericson's Boarding School, Louis appears alongside Violet in season four. Louis is deeply loved by fans for his theatrics and happy-go-lucky attitude. Even though he serves as the comedic relief, he also captures fans' hearts through his compassion for every member of his group.
Players also have the choice to pursue a relationship with Louis, in which if the player does so, he plays the piano and sings for Clementine. Louis is the only musician in the series and frequently plays the piano in order to preserve the music in the boarding school. Like Violet, Louis' death is also determined by the choices the player makes throughout the game.
8 Omid
Appearing in the first two seasons of the game, Omid has a personality similar to the previous entrant, Louis. Omid wins fans over through his comedic relief and the love he has for his group and his girlfriend, Christa. He's also loved for his realistic flaws, such as freezing up in life or death situations.
In a sad turn of events, Omid is killed at the beginning of season two, after being shot trying to protect Clementine. Fans in the Telltale Community page were devastated by his shocking and unexpected death in The Walking Dead game, but upon further reflection, mentioned that it reflected how real and intense situations in the apocalypse would be and how Omid needed to die to propel Clementine's journey.
7 Christa
Omid's girlfriend, Christa, is much more serious than her boyfriend but is still equally loved by fans. Christa is more independent and colder to outsiders and always on high alert, but when it comes to Clementine, she is very similar to some of the best video game moms in that she deeply cares for her and does everything she can to protect her.
During season two, Christa is pregnant and left alone with Clementine after Omid's death. After another conflict with an enemy group, Christa disappears, as Clementine is forced to run away from her. To this day, Christa's fate is still unknown and fans on sites like Reddit are still confused and want justice for how she was written off.
6 Luke
The leader of a group that Clementine becomes a part of in season two, Luke is a kind and compassionate former college student who takes Clementine under his wing. Fans love Luke's personality because he was the first father figure to Clementine after the main character, Lee Everett's, death and one of the most level-headed people out of the group.
Fans point out how Luke genuinely respects Clementine and her opinions, even when everyone seems to be against her. Luke also goes to lengths to make sure Clementine is safe, even begging her to not come near him to help him when he falls through the ice into a freezing lake. No matter if the player decides to help Luke or not, he still drowns in the lake and leaves behind an emotional and physical hole in the group.
5 Javier García
Javier, frequently called Javi, is the main character of season three. A former professional baseball player, he struggles with the strained relationships he caused in his family before and after the apocalypse. Even through this, he's always trying his best to rebuild them, especially with his niece and nephew who he travels with throughout the game, Gabe and Mariana.
Javier's character received backlash from fans due to Clementine's reduction in screen time and the fact the game is played through his eyes and not hers, like in season two. However, fans praise the difference in his character of being more advanced in combat than characters usually are and the fact he has a relatable personality and realistic backstory that players could connect with.
4 Alvin Jr. (AJ)
The youngest character in the game, AJ is born in season two and became a quick fan favorite in season four at the age of five. AJ still remains childlike but can yet be ruthless due to his lack of understanding of the real world because of his age. Clementine becomes his mother figure and tries her best to help him through these instances.
Fans love AJ, and during season four, some try to make him as happy as possible through Clementine's actions. The dynamic duo reminds fans of Clementine and Lee, reminding the players the series has come full circle.
3 Kenny
A stubborn and confrontational yet caring and protective family man from Florida, Kenny is part of the main group in season one before going missing and reappearing again in season two. Kenny used to be a commercial fisherman before the apocalypse started with a 10-year-old son, Duck, and wife, Katjaa.
Kenny is loved by many for doing anything to protect the children of the group, his relationship with Clementine and Lee, and his various wisecracks. Even though he becomes more aggressive and a liability to the group, some players struggle to choose if they should shoot him or let another character, Jane, die during an altercation because of how much time the player spends with him.
2 Lee Everett
The main protagonist of the first season, Lee Everett became one of the main staples of The Walking Dead games. The first season is played through Lee, a former professor at the University of Georgia who was on his way to jail after being convicted of murder when the apocalypse began.
Lee Everett is deeply beloved by fans and shows his soft-spoken, caring personality by taking care of Clementine and being the moral compass for the group. Lee's death at the end of the first season was heartbreaking and even left big named YouTubers like Pewdiepie in tears over his death. His death still remains talked about to this day.
1 Clementine
Clementine is the main protagonist of all four seasons of Telltale's The Walking Dead. She starts off as an eight-year-old, the player watching her grow up throughout the seasons as she makes various difficult, like-changing decisions until the end of the fourth season when she's 16.
Clementine is one of the most recognizable players of the franchise and has been debated amongst Reddit fans that she might be one of the best video game characters of all time. Fans loved her so much, Skybound Entertainment created a comic series dedicated to her, which is projected to come out in June 2022.
