RHOSLC: Mary Cosby Reportedly The 'Laughing Stock' Of Season 3's Crew
Mary Cosby's time on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is all but over despite what the 49-year-old claims after becoming the joke of RHOSLC season 3. Mary's journey on the newest Real Housewives installment has been chaotic since day one: the very first episode of RHOSLC season 1 features Mary and Jen Shah immediately at odds after Mary commented that Jen's house "smelled like hospital." Known for marrying her step-grandfather Robert Cosby Sr. and inheriting the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church after her grandmother's passing, fans have been equally intrigued and disgusted by the star's lifestyle — and choice of words — throughout her time on television.
Reports of Mary's dismissal from RHOSLC first began circulating after the preacher skipped out on taping season 2's reunion in early January. Confirmed as a no-show by Andy Cohen after filming was completed, Mary excused her absence by claiming that the conclusion episodes would be "one-sided" against her. Dragged by her fellow co-stars over racially-fueled comments throughout RHOSLC seasons 1 and 2, failing to face the other housewives was not surprising to many. Throughout her time on Bravo, Mary has committed several transgressions: highlights include comparing Jen to a "Mexican thug" and commenting on recently-fired Jennie Nguyen's "slanted eyes."
Despite denying reports that she has been let go from RHOSLC just days ago, multiple outlets have confirmed that Mary's time is indeed up. With missing season 2's reunion being Mary's nail in the coffin, the star's false confirmation of involvement has led to remarks from every corner of reality television—even from those operating behind the camera. “Mary looks like a fool,” a source close to Bravo's production crew tells Page Six. “How are you going to break Bravo’s cardinal rule by skipping the reunion and then expect to be welcomed back with open arms? It doesn’t work that way.” For reference, other Real Housewives alumni who did not return after missing their respective reunions include Adrienne Maloof and Lisa Vanderpump from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
When Page Six reported that Mary is "exiting" the Bravo series on February 4, the star was quick to shut things down online. Directly replying to the gossip website, Mary called the news "a complete fabrication." Despite an attempt to save face with viewers, however, Mary's denial has only made things worse for herself. “It’s really puzzling that Mary would even try to shut it down on Twitter,” the production source reveals. “Doesn’t she realize the news was going to come out anyway once Season 3 premiered and she was nowhere to be found? She hasn’t filmed anything, and the cast was told weeks ago that she won’t be.”
Although Mary is the second housewife failing to return for RHOSLC season 3, that doesn't mean that her presence will be completely gone; Heather Gay and archnemesis Jen were reportedly seen filming inside Mary's church in late January. With season 2 still underway, fans are anxious to see how the remaining episodes play out. With her large personality and dramatic fall from grace, Mary Cosby's contribution to Bravo will certainly continue to be felt regardless of being physically present.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
