It was Messi’s first goal in the French league since November – and only his SECOND since joining PSG from Barcelona last summer.

The game also marked Messi’s first Ligue 1 start since December after he tested positive for coronavirus over the Christmas break.

Yet the veteran showed no signs of rustiness as he starred in the rout at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Lille pipped PSG to last season’s title by just one single point.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men exacted revenge in style with a thrashing away from home.

Danilo Pereira opened the scoring for PSG after just 10 minutes.

But Sven Botman, who was strongly linked with Newcastle in January, levelled things up in the 28th minute.

Lille’s lead last just moments though as Presnel Kimpembe fired PSG back ahead.

Messi then wowed away fans with his cheeky chip seven minutes from the break.

A brilliant dribble from Neymar was blocked by Botman, but his clearance was hit straight into the path of Messi.

The football icon then took one touch to put himself clear on goal before using his left foot to delicately dink the ball over oncoming Lille goalie Ivo Grbic.

Messi’s strike put PSG in total control going into half-time.

And things got even better after the break when Pereira netted his second of the match in the 51st minute.

Kylian Mbappe, who could leave on a free transfer this summer, got the final goal of the game to make it 5-1 in the 67th minute

The result leaves PSG top of the Ligue 1 table – THIRTEEN points ahead of closest challengers Marseille.

As for title defenders Lille, they remain in 11th place – 24 points behind Messi and Co.
