Animal Crossing Fan Rebuilds Rick & Morty's Garage | Screen Rant
A talented Animal Crossing player has remade Rick Sanchez’s garage laboratory from Rick And Morty. Adult Swim’s ongoing series about a dimension-hopping mad scientist and his hapless grandson has seen plenty of tie-in video games over the years, and Rick and Morty have even appeared in ads for Death Stranding and the PlayStation 5 console itself. Most recently, the titular duo has been featured as playable guest characters in Fortnite, lending their scientific expertise to the citizens of the Island during Season 2’s alien invasion.
Meanwhile, fans have been using Animal Crossing’s wide range of character and island customization tools to make loving tributes to their favorite games, movies, and TV shows since the latest installment, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, was released during the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020. These have included locations like the Kwik-e-Mart convenience store from The Simpsons and even the twisted forest from Alice In Wonderland.
Reddit user amburroni recently posted a screenshot of their spot-on recreation of the Smith family garage from Rick And Morty. This custom-made tribute to the laundry area-turned-science lab features many small details from the one in the show, such as Rick's bulletin board, shelves of science equipment, and even a robotic arm at the lower-left corner of the room. There is even an Animal Crossing Villager version of Rick himself re-enacting one of his most emotionally-charged onscreen moments: sulking in the lab following his break-up with the hive-mind Unity at the end of the Season 2 episode “Auto Erotic Assimilation.” Amburroni included a screenshot from said episode to compare with their own Animal Crossing version of Rick’s garage.
This is hardly the first endorsement or collaboration between Animal Crossing or popular franchises/media figures either. Celebrities like Danny Trejo and T-Pain have shown off their own custom Animal Crossing islands. Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has even noted that playing Animal Crossing has inspired her to take up cooking in real life. Animal Crossing players have created Rick’s garage in-game before, and Adult Swim has returned this goodwill by sharing a surreal crossover video between Rick And Morty and Animal Crossing right before the show’s fifth season aired last year.
Meanwhile, amburroni’s recreation of the Smith garage from Rick And Morty is a pretty good replica of the makeshift lab that so many classic Rick and Morty adventures start in, capturing even the smallest details from Rick’s infamous work area. One can only picture what kind of crazy hijinks the grandfather-grandson duo could get into in the colorful world of Animal Crossing, where it seems the only limit to what classic TV locations and characters could show up is the player’s imagination.
