Hawkeye's 10 Best Comic Book Team-Ups | ScreenRant
Throughout his long comic book history, Clint Barton has teamed up not only with other superheroes, but also a range of villains too, forming partnerships with everyone from Natasha Romanoff to Kingpin.
In his first comic book appearance in Marvel's Tales of Suspense issue #57, released in 1964, Hawkeye was a villain, and though he soon joined the Avengers and became a familiar hero, issues of morality have followed the character over the decades. This shifting status is reflected in the people that Hawkeye has teamed up with, either in one-off cases or as longstanding partners.
10 Red Wolf
The current version of the hero Red Wolf in Marvel Comics' main continuity originally came from the 1800s on an alternate Earth, and was transported to Earth-616 after the events of Secret Wars.
Hawkeye partnered up with Red Wolf during the Occupy Avengers series, a storyline that saw him travelling across America to help communities who'd been overlooked by superheroes. Together, Hawkeye and Red Wolf took on Oasis Spring Water, a company who'd taken possession of an underground water reservoir belonging to the Sweet Medicine Indian Reservation, causing the reservation to fall into poverty. Taking his lead from the local community, Hawkeye assisted Red Wolf but never tried to undermine him.
9 Trickshot (Barney Barton)
Hawkeye's older brother Barney Barton has been an enemy to the archer on many occasions, but the two have also been allied at times.
In Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye, a solo Avengers comic canceled too early, Clint and Barney are shown to have reconciled, and despite their complicated history the brothers worked together to fight against the Tracksuit Mafia when they attack Clint's building in Bed-Stuy. Barney is also one of few characters shown to communicate with Clint in American Sign Language, and provides more insight into the hero's childhood.
8 Kingpin (Wilson Fisk)
Though he's a villain most often associated with Spider-Man and Daredevil, Hawkeye has had his own sometimes surprising interactions with Kingpin.
In his 2020 solo series Hawkeye: Freefall, Clint used both the Hawkeye and Ronin aliases (through lots of trickery) in order to take down the Hood's criminal organization. To gain more power in this mission, though, Clint — in his Ronin guise — meets up with Kingpin, and temporarily allies himself with the villain in a surprising move that help the hero, but also puts him in a precarious position.
7 Captain America (Steve Rogers)
As a longtime Avenger Hawkeye has obviously had many interactions with Captain America, stretching back to his early spot in Avengers team "Cap's Kooky Quartet."
Though it follows one of the clichés in Captain America comics, with Cap often being written as a mentor to other heroes, he has served this purpose for Hawkeye, and though they've often argued, the two have remained friends throughout the years. In fact, Hawkeye was considered to take up the mantle of Captain America after Cap's apparent death, in a narrative that solidified the connection the two shared.
6 Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)
They may be best known for their a rocky romantic history, but when they team-up as heroes, Hawkeye and Spider-Woman certainly make an impact.
The two have been teammates not only on the main Avengers roster but also as part of the Secret Avengers, in a storyline that sees them take on enemies like Lady Bullseye while trading quips and navigating their friendship in the time after their breakup. Despite their tricky personal lives though, the duo always complement each other well in the field.
5 The Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes)
Hawkeye and the Winter Soldier have not always seen eye to eye, as illustrated by Hawkeye's initial displeasure at Bucky taking up Captain America's shield, but they later develop a friendship.
Brought together after the supposed death of the Black Widow, who was such an important figure in both of their lives, the two team-up in the 2017 Tales of Suspense series, investigating the sudden murders of many of Black Widow's enemies across the world in order to see if their friend still lives. The story perfectly shows what unites and divides the two heroes as they tirelessly pursue answers.
4 Deadpool (Wade Wilson)
Both Hawkeye and Deadpool have developed a reputation in certain eras of their respective comics as the comedic relief, and so it seems only natural that the two would be paired together.
The pair team-up in the limited series Hawkeye vs. Deadpool, which despite its confrontational title sees the two superheroes working together to take on Black Cat Felicia Hardy and her gang of minions. The series proves that Hawkeye and Deadpool have compatibility, shown not only in action sequences but also in little moments, when Wade makes sure to remove his mask from the bottom half of his face so that Clint can read his lips.
3 Mockingbird (Bobbi Morse)
One of the main things that the Hawkeye show got right about Clint Barton was showcasing his caring side, clearly seen in the comics through his relationship with Bobbi Morse.
Hawkeye and Mockingbird were married for a time, and though they later divorced the two have still worked together from time to time. The pair's heroic prowess was showcased not only in the Hawkeye & Mockingbird limited series but also in the Widowmaker story which followed it, where the two teamed up with Black Widow.
2 Black Widow (Natasha Romanova)
Though Hawkeye and Black Widow are an iconic pairing in the MCU as well as on-the-page, there are still some things only comic book fans know about Natasha and Clint's relationship.
The two were romantically involved in the comics for a while, but beyond that their partnership and friendship has remained an important aspect of both characters' lives. Whether they are fighting alongside one another as members of the Avengers or on more espionage-focused missions by themselves, Hawkeye and Black Widow have been through immeasurable challenges together.
1 Hawkeye (Kate Bishop)
Largely the basis for Disney+'s Hawkeye show, the team-ups between Hawkeyes Clint Barton and Kate Bishop have been influential on both individuals' superhero careers.
The pair had an ongoing partnership in the Fraction/Aja run of Hawkeye comics which shed new light on both characters' daily lives, and showed how their friendship had developed since Kate first took on the name Hawkeye. Facing down street-level or more widespread villains with humor and skill, Clint and Kate's storyline showed why two Hawkeyes are better than one.
