Spruce Kings Sweep Season Series vs. Centennials With A 4-1 Win

MERRITT BC – Two big goals from Luc Laylin, along with tallies from Nick Rhéaume and Rowan Miller triumphed the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 4-1 win over the Merritt Centennials at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena on Saturday night, improving the Spruce Kings record to 21-9-3-5.

 PG: Off a Spruce Kings faceoff win by Rowan Miller, Simon Labelle touched it back to Nick Rheaume and the Spruce Kings leading goal scorer wired home his 22nd of the year from the slot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Rheaume’s 22nd of the season was assisted by both Labelle and Miller at 10:14.

PG: Just over five minutes later, it was another faceoff win, courtesy of John Herrington and Luc Laylin was able to pick up the puck inside the left circle and roof it by John Hicks to double the Spruce Kings lead. Laylin’s eighth of the year was assisted by Herrington at 15:43.

MER: Off a dump in from Tristan Allen, the puck took a lively bounce off the end boards, and it came right to the Centennial captain Davide Patella, and he fired it by Aaron Trotter to get the Centennials within one. Patella’s eighth goal of the season was assisted by Allen and Connor Farren at 19:56.

 PG: Just after the midway point of the third stanza, the Spruce Kings found themselves on a power-play, and Nick Rheaume rifled a one timer that was stopped, but Rowan Miller ripped home the rebound off the bar and in to regain the Spruce Kings two-goal lead. Miller’s 18th of the season was assisted by Rheaume and Dylan Schives at 9:51.

PG: In the final minutes of the period, Luc Laylin picked the pocket of Ben Ward just outside the Merritt blueline and Laylin rifled a wrist shot in the high slot top corner on John Hicks to make it 4-1 Spruce Kings. Laylin’s second of the night and ninth of the year was unassisted at 17:21.
