Christian Eriksen arrives for first Brentford training session seven months after horror cardiac arrest at Euro 2020
CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has begun training with new club Brentford, seven months after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.
The 30-year-old Danish international, who collapsed on the pitch in a game against Finland in June, has signed a short-term deal with the newly-promoted Premier League outfit.
The move comes after Serie A regulations no longer permitted him from playing in Italy’s top flight due to his heart condition.
But he is still able to compete in England and will be hoping to make an impact for Brentford as they bid to avoid relegation.
Speaking after signing Eriksen, Bees boss Thomas Frank, who coached the player as a Denmark youth international, said: “I am looking forward to working with Christian again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then.
“Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League.
“He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.”
Frank also confirmed he remains in good shape as he has been training with Ajax’s reserve side since leaving Inter in the summer.

“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a world class player to Brentford,” he added.
“He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.”
Eriksen is excited to hit the ground running with the West London club.
He said: “I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed for Brentford Football Club.
“I can’t wait to get started and hopefully I’ll see you all very soon.”

Eriksen spent seven seasons in the Prem with Tottenham, scoring 69 goals and assisting a further 90.
He then moved to Inter where he netted eight times in 60 games and won the Serie A title last season.
Brentford currently sit 14th in the table, eight points above the bottom three after 23 games.
