I met a mum whose baby had a beautiful name – until I asked how it was spelt
A WOMAN who complimented a stranger’s “beautiful” choice of baby name quickly retracted her comment when she learned how it was spelt.
The anonymous woman, from the UK, took to social forum site Quora and responded to the initial poster who asked: “What baby name immediately makes you lose all respect for the parents and why?”
Sharing her experience, she explained: “I once met a woman who had a very cute little girl in a stroller.
I complimented the woman on such a pretty child and asked for her name.”
She went on to say how the mum replied “See-ann,” and, thinking it was an interesting name, she asked how it was spelt.

After hearing the response “S E A N,” she questioned whether it was “Sean.”
However, it didn’t go down too well with the girl’s mum who raged: “AUUUUUUUUUUG!!!! Why do people keep saying that? Su much ignorant people in this world!”
And it wasn’t long before others took to the comments section to share the unusually spelt monikers they’ve come across.

“My cousin was at a general check up at her pediatrician’s office – she was 17, and not ready to pick a GP – and was waiting her turn to be called back,” wrote one.
“A nurse with a clipboard stepped into the waiting room, and – with a VERY guilty look on her face – said, “I’m sorry. Is there a S*** Head?”
She continued: “Everyone sat up and looked around shocked, and a rather disgruntled mum stood up with her newborn in her arms and said, in an annoyed and condescending tone, “It’s Sh-thed.”
Another told how she ran into a six-year-old girl who said her name was “a-b-c-d-e.”
When she commended her for knowing the alphabet, her mum replied: “That’s her name – Abcde.”

Among the other rather quirky spellings included Kristen, spelt Kris-10 and Emily, spelt EmmaLea.
Elsewhere, a further commented: “A friend of a friend had a baby named Yvonne. I LOVE that name (it is my daughter’s middle name).
But this poor child wasn’t going to be called Eee-Von or Eh-von. She was going to be called Why-von-eee – spelt Y.V.O.N.N.E. **insert eye roll emoji**.”
