Stargirl: 10 DC Comics Characters That Would Fit In The Main Cast

0

Stargirl has been one of the most surprising and fun DC TV shows since it premiered on DC Universe in May 2020. The show has since moved to The CW but it remains a strong showcase of DC comics characters and lore. Mainly focusing on a younger iteration of The Justice Society of America (JSA), the team has made some mistakes in their short time together but is a strong force with room to grow.

With Stargirl continuing to introduce new characters each season, there are several DC comics characters who would fit in perfectly with the show's main cast.

Ever since the emergence of Batman's son, Damian Wayne, as Robin, the Helena Wayne version of Huntress has been largely ignored in DC media in favor of the Helena Bertinelli incarnation.

As the daughter of Catwoman and Bruce Wayne, Helena has a lot to offer off the strength of her relations alone, but as a member of the JSA, a great fighter, and skilled markswoman, she is her own hero in the comics. Introducing a faithful adaptation of one of DC's most underutilized heroes to Stargirl would open the door for so many possibilities for the show to explore.

Arrowverse fans are already familiar with Jennifer Pierce's Lightning, where she was one of the strongest characters on Black LightningStargirl is the perfect place to usher in an Earth-2 version of the character.

In the comics, Jennifer joins the JSA to help control and learn more about her powers, but she also becomes close friends with Stargirl in the process. Stargirl helped to guide Jennifer as a new member, which would fit perfectly if the storyline were adapted for the show. While it may be too soon to bring the character back right now, it would be fascinating to see the character debut in one of the later seasons of Stargirl.

Having Sandy Hawkins' Sandman join Stargirl's main cast is a long shot worth taking a look at. Whenever Sandman is used in live-action or animation, it is always the Wesley Dodds version.

On Stargirl, it's confirmed that Sandman died with the rest of the original JSA, so having his mentee from the comics, Sandy Hawkins, take up his mantle could be interesting. Having a mysterious superhero who uses gas guns against his adversaries would certainly shake things up, and after seeing how well Eclipso's dream manipulation powers worked in season two, Sandman would fit right in with the main cast.

The Cassie Sandsmark version of Wondergirl has yet to make her live-action debut but is known by fans on Young Justice. Cassie is widely recognized as a member of Teen Titans and Young Justice, nevertheless, her personality and skillset are a great match for Stargirl's JSA.

Cassie shares the same powers as DC comics-favorite, Wonder Woman, but with the multiverse existing in the Arrowverse, her introduction is possible. Cassie is a very outgoing character similar to Stargirl, which would be a friendship worth exploring in Stargirl. Wondergirl and Stargirl are currently teammates on the Outsiders team in Young Justice, so seeing them together on the JSA can work.

Maxine Hunkel, also known as Cyclone, is a DC comics character that fans are going to become more familiar with following the release of the upcoming Black Adam film.

In the comics, she is the granddaughter of the first Red Tornado, Ma Hunkel, and later becomes a member of the JSA, like her grandmother. Cyclone debuted as a strong but energetic superfan of the JSA who is given her first costume by Stargirl when she joins. Having a version of Cyclone on television would allow for the character to get more shine than she will as a supporting character in Black Adam. Her flight and wind manipulation powers are simple yet effective and given her history with Stargirl and the JSA, she's a great candidate for the show.

In the comics, Tom Bronson is the son of the first Wildcat, Ted Grant. Unlike his father, who fights wearing a regular costume, Tom is a metahuman that can turn into a were-cat. Stargirl already has a version of Wildcat with Yolanda Montez, one of the bravest characters that Stargirl has to offer.

However, Tom would fit in perfectly with the show's main cast, as Stargirl already has characters with personal ties to the original JSA, and in the comics, Ted Grant was not aware that he had a son until Tom was older. Given that Ted Grant is dead in the present day of Stargirl, Tom wouldn't get to interact with him, but introducing a very different version of Wildcat would serve as an interesting storyline for Yolanda.

Introducing a popular speedster like Liberty Belle (also known as Jesse Quick) would be a great addition to Stargirl's JSA roster. The third season of The Flash introduced a different version of the character with Jesse Wells. In the comic book version, Jesse Chambers gets her powers from her parents, with her super speed from her father and super strength coming from her mother.

Jesse is most often portrayed as a member of the JSA in the comics. Having more metahumans in the Stargirl main cast is something that is inevitable and having another smart character with leadership skills such as Jesse Chambers, would compliment the rest of the team.

Todd Rice already exists in Stargirl as Green Lantern's son and twin of Jennie-Lynn Hayden (Jade). Fans have yet to see him on the show, but Jennie spent a majority of the second season looking for him.

In the comics, Todd is a popular JSA character with the ability to create objects out of shadows, cover the entire world in darkness, and several other powers. Since it's already confirmed that Todd is out there somewhere, all that is left is for him to do is officially get his powers and eventually join the team. He would be the perfect legacy member to join the main cast alongside his sister and the rest of the team.

Just like Wesley Dodd's Sandman, Kent Nelson's Doctor Fate was killed by the Injustice Society in Stargirl. However, because the identity of Doctor Fate can be assumed by anyone who dons the helmet, it would be awesome to see Khalid Nassour appear in Stargirl.

Khalid is the newest DC Comics character to take over the Doctor Fate mantle, being introduced to the comics back in 2015. Recently, Khalid appeared on Young Justice: Phantoms and is starting to get more notoriety in the DC community. Khalid is a smart character that would fit in perfectly with the Stargirl team because he brings something different that the main cast is lacking. Khalid Nassour is a trained EMT, expert of the mystical arts, and would provide the team with magical powers that none of the members possess. Despite Khalid being recognized as a member of Justice League Dark in the comics, Doctor Fate has always had ties to the JSA, so making him on Stargirl's team shouldn't be an issue.

The Spectre is one of the most powerful characters in all of DC comics. Arrowverse fans saw a glimpse of what Oliver Queen accomplished as The Spectre in Arrow, but the Jim Corrigan version has yet to shine in live-action. Jim Corrigan's Spectre works best when he operates as an independent, rather than as a member of the JSA or Justice League. His powers of reality-warping, energy manipulation, immortality, and more, make him essentially a God.

The Spectre is not really a hero or a villain, which makes him a good fit for Stargirl's cast, because as the team continues to grow, having someone of his magnitude would work better as a presence outside of the JSA. The Spectre is on a similar power level to that of Eclipso, so having a being on Stargirl with his abilities is already possible. Despite multiple DC characters haven taken on the role of The Spectre, Jim Corrigan has always been the most recognizable version, and having him on Stargirl would certainly shift the balance in a positive light.
