Sister Wives: Why Kody's Less-Loved Wives Shouldn't Act Like Martyrs
For multiple seasons, there has been a sense of martyrdom between Meri, Janelle, and Christine especially when it comes to how Kody Brown, star of Sister Wives, treats his less-liked spouses. Kody's relationships with his first three wives have been under the microscope since, at times, it seems that Meri, Christine, and Janelle have had their moments of doubt. The patriarch often comes across as controlling, with many questioning if Kody ever loved his first three wives. The most recent season highlighted the Browns' drama and just how fragile Kody's connections are with each of his spouses. Even though Kody can't claim to win any husband of the year awards, each spouse has played their role as a cast-aside wife pretty well.
Viewers have noted that Kody has put his fourth wife, Robyn, on a pedestal while also knocking his other wives down. However, the less popular wives have never been forced to stay married to Kody. This had led some who watch the show to question why they act like martyrs in the relationship.
Most Sister Wives viewers would agree that the wives should venture off alone and try to find real happiness. The tendency to feel sorry for themselves has not helped them in their journey to winning back Kody. Whether it's Meri venturing out in her affair or Janelle deciding to live by herself in her luxury RV, viewers are becoming tired of the ladies' ability to play the martyr role so well.
Season 16 showed Christine losing her cool on more than one occasion mainly due to Kody's callous actions. The third wife often complained about her husband, whether it was his lack of attention or strict rules. Christine always found ways to cut him to the quick in order to elicit pity from viewers. If each of the first three wives put their efforts into bettering their lives away from their stressful unions, many feel they would be happier. Even though they all seem to have their own attachment to Kody, who often comes across as their leader, viewers fully believe they should stop using him as their excuse for being unhappy.
Kody has never been able to convince either his spouses or those who watch the show that he truly cares about his first three wives. The father of 18 recently shared that he was jaded by the polygamous lifestyle causing concern amongst Sister Wives viewers. Kody has already lost one wife due to his selfish ways, as Christine left the marriage in November of 2021. Viewers feel that Janelle and Meri should also consider leaving, but they may find it hard after playing the role of a martyr for so long.
