Chicago Bears add tight ends coach Jim Dray to Matt Eberflus’ staff

Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus has hired Jim Dray to be his tight ends coach, the team announced Monday.

Dray has four years of coaching experience, including three in the NFL. He was the offensive quality control coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and the Arizona Cardinals in 2020-21.

Dray played tight end for eight years in the NFL after the Cardinals drafted him in the seventh round in 2010. He had 56 catches for 605 yards and three touchdowns in 94 games, including 38 starts, for the Cardinals, Browns, Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers.

After his final NFL appearance in 2017, Dray became an offensive assistant for a year at his alma mater Stanford. He had 41 catches for 455 yards and seven touchdowns over 39 career starts.

Dray is a native of Paramus, N.J.

In the week since the Bears introduced Eberflus as their head coach, he has made the following hires:

  • Offensive coordinator: Luke Getsy
  • Defensive coordinator: Alan Williams
  • Special teams coordinator: Richard Hightower
  • Pass game coordinator/wide receivers coach: Tyke Tolbert
  • Quarterbacks coach: Andrew Janocko
  • Offensive line coach: Chris Morgan
  • Tight ends coach: Jim Dray
  • Linebackers coach: Dave Borgonzi
  • Defensive backs coach: James Rowe
  • Assistant defensive backs coach: David Overstreet II
