Vote now: Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls athlete of the week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Jan. 31-Feb. 6.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Sierra Chambers, San Ramon Valley basketball: Sophomore guard scored 20 points in 71-63 victory over Monte Vista. She added eight points, seven rebounds and five assists in 68-35 thumping of Pinole Valley. Wolves are 22-2 overall and 10-0 in East Bay Athletic League.

Ella Colombini, Campolindo soccer: Senior scored three of Cougars’ five goals in victories over Miramonte, Alhambra. Had game’s only goal in win against Alhambra. Tied for team-lead in scoring (33 points) with identical twin Mia. Both sisters headed for UC-Irvine. Campo is 10-1-4 this season.

Jaley Croy, Northgate basketball: The 5-10 senior combined for 48 points and 36 rebounds during a 4-0 week for the Broncos. Had double-doubles against Clayton Valley and Ygnacio Valley. Headed to Cal Baptist University in Riverside, where she will be on the swim team.

Stephanie Ebert, Santa Teresa basketball: The 5-4 guard had 20 points in wins over Leland and Silver Creek as Saints improved to 11-4. Named Player of Game for her effort against Leland. Senior was first-team all-BVAL West Valley Division as a sophomore. 

Natalie Holm, Los Altos basketball: Sophomore forward had 15 points and eight rebounds in 50-48 overtime win over Riordan. Hit 3-pointer with less than a second left in regulation to force the extra period. Had 21 points, 27 rebounds during a 3-0 week that lifted the Eagles to 14-6.

Kathryn Kelly, Carlmont soccer: UCLA-bound defender had four goals, four assists in two easy wins as the Scots upped their record to 13-2-2 overall, 8-0-0 in PAL-Ocean. Tied for team-lead with seven assists. Rated a four-star recruit by Top Drawer Soccer. Part of No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

Lyndsey Marrujo, San Leandro basketball: Senior shooting guard had 51 points during 3-1 week for Pirates. Had 21 points – all 3-pointers – as San Leandro avenged an early-season loss to Bishop O’Dowd. Pirates are 17-5 for the season and 6-1 in WACC-Foothill Division.

Jadyn Patterson, Valley Christian basketball: Guard had 13 points, six assists and five steals in a tough loss to No. 3 Mitty. Valley Christian led the game at halftime. The 5-5 senior has been on varsity all four years and was all-WCAL as a freshman. She is headed for Cal State-Stanislaus.

Mikaela Sendino, Half Moon Bay wrestling: The 106-pound senior won matches against Burlingame and San Mateo. Ranked fifth in Central Coast Section in her weight class.

Shea Spencer, Liberty soccer: Sophomore goalie recorded her eighth shutout in 13 games in a 1-0 win over Freedom. The win raised Liberty’s record to 10-2-4 overall and 7-0-1 in Bay Valley Athletic League.
