Driver killed after crashing into trees off Highway 9
A driver was killed in a traffic collision Sunday morning off Highway 9, west of Saratoga, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Highway 9, just south of Redwood Gulch Road, and California Highway Patrol arrived at about 11:40 a.m., according to CHP officer Ross Lee. A 22-year-old Sunnyvale man was driving a 2009 BMW coupe northbound on Highway 9 and for an unknown reason, lost control of the car as he was entering a left-to-right curve.
The driver went off the roadway, hitting trees and heavy brush before coming to a stop 200 to 300 feet down the embankment, according to authorities. The man died at the scene and was wearing a seatbelt. Police don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, Lee said. There was minimal effect on traffic in the area.
