Although the Vanarama National League’s title races and relegation battles are gaining intensity, it’s also been an Emirates FA Cup weekend, and if it happened, we have it pretty much covered in this week’s podcast:

Kidderminster Harriers and Boreham Wood bravely went forth, and the Wood went to the fifth; our podcast deadlines sadly meant that Luke Garrard’s side had yet to play when we recorded, but they and Russ Penn’s Harriers have won legions of admirers for their exploits.

For this week’s podcast, regular team members Rob and Dickie were joined by former Bromley manager Neil ‘Smudger’ Smith and Off the Line blogger Joe Pope, to cast their eye over events in the National League.

There’s been a resolution to the situation at Chesterfield, who will have to achieve their aim of promotion without the architect of their season, James Rowe – what might his departure mean for the Spireites, and who could be in the frame to replace him?

At the top of the table, Stockport County set a new club record of ten consecutive wins in all competitions, as they overcame bottom of the table Dover Athletic; our own Chris Pratt spoke to Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler about the challenge he faces in trying to keep the Kent side’s heads above water, against seemingly insurmountable odds.

Joe was at Plainmoor as the National League’s big spenders Wrexham arrived on the English Riviera, and found themselves all at sea against Gary Johnson’s Torquay United.

Rob was at the EBB Stadium as Barnet overcame Aldershot Town and afterwards he spoke to the Bees director of football and current manager, Dean Brennan.

The team also discuss whether Grimsby Town can haul themselves back into the play-off picture, whether King’s Lynn Town can escape the relegation trapdoor, and also whether Altrincham has arrested their alarming slide.

In the National League South, Tonbridge Angels didn’t fear to tread at Meadowbank, home of the seemingly impregnable Dorking Wanderers, recording a shock victory, whilst Neil was at Princes Park to run the rule over Steve King’s Dartford.

In the National League North, AFC Fylde revived their title challenge with a big win at Gateshead, whilst at the bottom, Farsley Celtic’s new manager Russ Wilcox saw his side share six goals with Chorley as they tried to reverse their slide to the foot of the table. Dickie has the North covered for us.

All previous episodes of the podcast are available.
