Harry Potter: Cedric's Entrance Dropping Out Of A Tree Was Robert Pattinson's Idea
Robert Pattinson has revealed that Cedric Diggory's entrance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in which he jumps out of a tree was actually his idea. Audiences are eagerly awaiting the release of Pattinson's latest project, which will see the Twilight star become Gotham City's caped crusader, Bruce Wayne in The Batman. With the film's release now just weeks away, Matt Reeves' take on the well-known comic-book hero will skip the character's origins and jump straight into the action, with the movie set to focus on Wayne's second year as the Dark Knight as he comes up against the relentless Riddler, played by Paul Dano.
The Batman is simply the latest addition to Pattinson's impressive roster of stand-out roles, after the monumental rise to fame that followed his appearance in Twilight back in 2008. Prior to the creation of Team Edward, however, the 35-year-old starred as Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter installment, which saw a handful of Hogwarts' young wizards partake in the Triwizard Tournament, involving a series of challenges that ultimately see Diggory become the very first casualty of the franchise at the hands of He Who Shall Not Be Named, himself. Audiences are introduced to the character early on within the film after he somewhat mysteriously drops from a tree to introduce himself to the Weasley clan, and now Pattinson has revealed that this was actually a creative suggestion on his part.
While sitting down with GQ to take a retrospective look at some of his most iconic characters, Pattinson offered a deep dive into how his role within Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came to be. The star revealed that the idea to introduce his character by having him jump down from a tree was entirely his idea and that he actually offered up the same suggestion when it came to filming Twilight as well. The actor hilariously acknowledged the unique entrance, joking that he would always offer up jumping out of a tree as a suggestion. Check out Pattinson's quote below.
It was definitely my concept to jump out of the tree in the beginning for my intro which I then kind of repeated later on in Twilight. For some reason I always have the suggestion to be like “Why doesn’t he just appear just like jumping out of a tree?”
In the interview, Pattinson went on to reveal that the film's final challenge, which takes place in an enchanted maze, was actually the very first scene that he shot for the movie. The Tenet star recalled that the entire experience was "very, very intimidating" as he had not previously worked with special effects. The actor continued to divulge a number of fun anecdotes about his time within the Wizarding World, admitting that he found the idea of fighting with a magic wand rather "dorky" and instead opted to use two hands as if holding a handgun.
Pattinson's role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is certainly a far cry from the sort of characters that audiences will be used to seeing the actor take on nowadays. When news first broke that Pattinson would be leading this latest iteration of Batman, his casting proved to be incredibly divisive with some fans questioning whether the actor would be right for the role. For many, however, these doubts appear to have been gradually dispelled as The Batman's promotional run has offered various glimpses at Pattinson's upcoming portrayal. As for now, it remains to be seen whether Bruce Wayne will take a leaf out of Cedric Diggory's book when it comes to a dramatic entrance.
