Sweet Magnolias: The 10 Best Quotes | Screen Rant
Netflix finally released season 2 of Sweet Magnolias. The show centers around themes of keeping your head held high when everything seems to be dragging you down and boasts a cast of witty women that can make the audience laugh when everyone should be crying.
There have been many moments from the girls and the town of Serenity that define them as characters, and there are many memorable quotes in the series. And while these are not the funniest quotes in the show, each one says something about the characters and what makes each member of Serenity unique.
Not two minutes into the first episode and JoAnna Garcia Swisher draws fans in with her character on Sweet Magnolias. Right off the bat, it is evident Maddie Townsend is the character to root for, and she isn't going to let this drastic life change keep her down.
Maddie had to deal with a very sudden divorce, was forced to go back to work and even forced to sell her house (which Bill, fortunately, let her keep). This is also the scene when viewers are introduced to Helen Decatur and the audience is comfortable in knowing that Maddie will be just fine.
When Ty is confronted by Maddie, she tells him that Coach Maddux requests a meeting with both parents. Ty was definitely the child who took the divorce to heart, as he gets bullied by his teammates about it.
When Maddie discusses the meeting with him, she argues that Bill has made some bad decisions, but he should still attend the meeting with them to figure out a solution. Ty says he'll attend the meeting as long as Bill isn't there, saying that he shouldn't be the one telling him what decisions to make regarding baseball.
This piece of wisdom from Erik to Isaac in the kitchen is a perfect example of the Southern charm Sweet Magnolias effortlessly exudes. This was a moment that showed Erik's loyalty to Sullivan's and his Southern upbringing.
This quote was moments after Brad came into Sullivan's, harassing Dana Sue with the intent of making people believe he was wrongfully terminated. When things get out of hand, Erik has to step in. Once he escorts Brad out of the restaurant, he hits him and tells him to never return, proving that he is much more than an average employee.
The return of Helen's first love, Ryan, made for an exciting change for a character who deserves some excitement, while also stirring up drama for another character that deserves the same.
Ryan returns to Serenity claiming that he doesn't want his childhood summer home to change, but his Aunt Frances quickly shuts this down, explaining that those memories won't go away, and the girls are going to work their hardest to preserve those memories while making something better. This realization allowed him to have a change of heart and reconnect with Helen.
Brooke Elliot's character on Sweet Magnolias, Dana Sue, has seen some hard times, even going through the same issues as Maddie. Her husband cheated on her, her sous chef stole expensive liquor and still continues to harass her by claiming "wrongful termination," and she even had a medical episode in her own kitchen. But unfortunately, Dana Sue is somewhat stubborn and won't accept help from others.
Erik takes her aside and gives her this wonderful advice, once again proving that he is Serenity through and through. This moment finally makes Dana Sue realize all the amazing people in her life are there for a reason.
This is a very simple and straightforward quote that singlehandedly changed the girls for the rest of the season. Maddie's mother reveals that she is painting something special for the spa. While Maddie is grateful for this gesture, she opts to have said painting hung in the yoga studio.
Through a series of mishaps, the girls are required to cover up a plaster-filled hole that was still too wet to paint over. Helen asks Maddie's mother if she would be willing to hang it in the initial spot to cover up the damage. This made the girls rejoice and realize that any problem can be overcome if they stick together, a lesson that stuck with fans of Steel Magnolias.
Tyler made it clear from the beginning that he was taking his parents' divorce harder than his siblings. His pitching was suffering, his grades were declining and he didn't take the news of his mother and his Coach lightly.
Tyler didn't want his teammates to hear the news since he already heard all the jokes about his father and knew this would just be ammunition. Maddie explains that she can't control her feelings and won't miss an opportunity to get herself back out there.
Since the beginning of the series, it was clear Coach Maddox was a strong and likable character in Sweet Magnolias. He always had Tyler's best interests at heart, while still making sure he knew that he had a gift. While he still treated his other players with an equal amount of respect and was a great mentor for them, Mary Vaughn unfairly calls his bias for Tyler into question.
When Tyler sees how Mary Vaughn treats Jackson at the school, he fakes a shoulder injury to let Jackson start. Coach Maddox knew that Mary Vaughn was a thorn in everyone's side and wanted her to get a taste of her own medicine. At this moment, Tyler had a change of heart and gained a friend.
From the start, it was difficult to make heads or tails of CeCe. She seemed sweet enough to Tyler but also seemed like a popular girl going for the next jock. When Helen calls her up during the school's first mock trial, she sees CeCe has a gift for debating.
Helen informs her that she sees how she's unique and encourages her to keep going to the mock trials, but CeCe is reluctant due to her father's views on college. Once Helen discusses this with her father at his work, he realizes that this could be a great thing for his daughter.
One shocking reveal in season 1 was that Isaac came to Serenity to find his birth father. Isaac believed Erik was his father, although Erik quickly shuts that down, but still stays a father figure to Isaac.
While in the kitchen, Erik tells this story of how he had to find something that gives him purpose and a drive to keep going when nothing else would. This leads Isaac to come to the realization that he shouldn't focus on his birth father when there's already a man who cared for him all his life back home.
