Match Preview: Cove Rangers v Queen’s park
The Spiders make the long journey north to take on league leaders Cove Rangers at the Balmoral Stadium on Saturday. Whilst this will only be our fourth ever visit to the Balmoral it’s not been a happy hunting ground in the past but buoyed by the midweek victory over Dumbarton, the Spiders head north looking forward to the challenge.
Ahead of the team travelling up to Aberdeen on Friday afternoon, the club media team caught up with Director of Football, Marijn Beuker, to get his thoughts on the match.
Marijn commented: “This is a game we are looking forward to. We know from Cove Rangers’ league position alone that they are a good side who can play, and play well, and we hope that that helps create some opportunity for us. These are the types of games that we all love being involved in.”
“It was pleasing to get the victory against Dumbarton during the week but we don’t only take confidence from winning games. We are focussing on playing a specific way and whilst it’s always good to win any game, we have to switch our mindset to this game only.”
“It’s been quite some time since we won two games in a row so that immediately becomes the next goal for us to try and achieve.”
“These are the types of games that the players looking forward to and even more so given that the players all understand what we are looking to do. We know we need matches to continue to better implement our style of play so the games can’t come quick enough for us just now.”
“We will have a similar squad available to us to that which we had on Tuesday night. We are very pleased that the injury picked up by Luca Connell in last Saturday’s game is not as bad as first feared and he is recovering well, which is great news. We are also delighted that Darren Lyon is edging closer to a return having been out for some time.”
“In terms of the players who have been missing in recent weeks Wullie Muir is continuing to make some progress on his injury, Stuart Morrison likewise, now that he is out of the supportive boot. We are pleased to report that Simon Murray underwent an operation on his injury, and this has been successful. We hope that Simon will make good progress in his recovery and be able to join the squad again for training soon.”
