0

New release The Sky is Everywhere is a heartfelt young adult drama starring a cast of young actors as well as some veteran character actors. Released simultaneously by A24 Pictures and the AppleTV+ streaming service, The Sky is Everywhere is an adaptation of Jandy Nelson's novel of the same name. While the adaptation has gotten mixed reviews from critics, it's garnering praise for its poignancy and Josephine Decker's inventive directorial style.

The Sky Is Everywhere deftly deals with the topic of grief without being overly sentimental. The story revolves around 17-year-old Lennie, a musical prodigy, as she struggles to deal with the unexpected death of her older sister Bailey. New opportunities for love and art present themselves, but Lennie is still overcome by mourning.

With The Sky is Everywhere, AppleTV+ aims to build on the success of CODA with another grounded, artfully-directed coming-of-age story. The film has drawn generally positive reactions from critics, with Josephine Decker's direction and the young cast, in particular, receiving praise. Here's a breakdown of The Sky is Everywhere's cast and characters, which includes young talent to watch out for in the years to come.

Lennie Walker is the protagonist of The Sky is Everywhere, a music student struggling to move on from the death of her sister. Kaufman is a second-generation actress who at 19 already has several years of on-screen experience, including playing Ashley Chandler in The Last Ship and Kate Burns in Man with a Plan. She has also done voice roles for Clarence and Whisker Haven.

Probably the most well-known actor in The Sky is Everywhere is Jason Segel, who plays Lennie's eccentric, pot-smoking, "Truthmobile" driving Uncle Big. Segel is best known for comedic roles such as his lead performances in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and How I Met Your Mother. He has also established himself through more dramatic performances such as playing the author David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour.

Lennie's most influential role model seems to be her compassionate grandmother. Gram is played by Cherry Jones, who is primarily a Broadway actress but also has decades of screen credits to her name. She has received multiple Emmy awards for roles in 24, The Handmaid's Tale, and Succession.

Joe Fontaine is a talented trumpeter who attracts Lennie's romantic interest, leading to a turbulent relationship. Colimon is a young Haitian-American actor who is also a poet and activist. He is previously best known for playing Will LeClair in the short-lived Netflix series The Society.

Pico Alexander as Toby Shaw: Toby is Bailey's ex-boyfriend who has a unique and uneasy bond with Lennie. Alexander has recently appeared as Henry "Ship" Shipley in AppleTV+'s Dickinson.

Havana Rose Liu as Bailey: Liu portrays Lennie's sister Bailey in several flashback scenes in The Sky is Everywhere. A relatively new actress, Liu also recently played Sarah in The Chair.

Ji-young Yoo as Sarah: Sarah is one of Lennie's closest and most supportive friends. Yoo provided the voice of  Lee Eun Yoo in Sweet Home, and also had a brief appearance as an extra in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Julia Schlaepfer as Rachel: The preppy Rachel challenges Lennie for her position as the first-chair clarinet player in their school band in The Sky Is Everywhere. Schlaepfer's biggest prior role was as Alice Charles in The Politician.
